Default John Tomase

I'm watching Sports Tonight on CSN and who is on but John Tomase. I am usually not one for holding grudges but I will never forget what he tried to do to this franchise and our coach.

While watching him stammer on about the Red Sox, I started off mad at him and then got really upset with myself. As a devoted New England Sports fan, how have I allowed this man to continue to come into my home to cover the teams I love? Shame on me for letting this continue to happen.

So the question to my fellow Patriots fans is what can we do about this? There are many, many smart, savvy and creative fans on this forum. How do we organize a way to get this clown replaced by one of the young, hungry and talented sports journalists we have in this community? Help me out Patriots fans. Advise me. I am wide open to suggestions.

Are you listening Boston Herald?

Although Tomase deserves his share of the blame, I have never gotten why people direct all their hate towards him yet forget the real villians like Greg Bishop of the NY Times who conspired with Arlene Specter to use the Times as Specter's PR firm in his effort to disqualify the Pats' Super Bowl win over the Eagles and push his Comast agenda vs. the NFL. Or Mike Fish and Greg Easterbrook of ESPN who together wrote a piece of yellow journalism that stated Matt Walsh had evidence to bring down the Patriots eventhough they not only did not know if the evidence was damagaging, but they didn't even know if the evidence even really existed.

I always looked at Tomase's crime as stupid opportunism. The Matt Walsh scandal was already there and he just tied the rumors and inuendos of that nothing scandal to the Rams walkthrough rumor. It was guys like Specter, Easterbrook, and Bishop who had sinister motives and wanted to deal the Pats a deathblow right before the Pats faced the Giants. Without Specter and Bishop (and subsequently the Mike Fish article that Easterbook facilitiated), Tomase would never have written about the Rams walkthrough.

If Tomase didn't write his piece, the Matt Walsh scandal was already an blck cloud hanging over the Pats heads the Friday before the Super Bowl. I still don't get why Tomase gets all the blame for this. His was the third story with allegations of further cheating by the Patriots in a 24 hour period.

Because Tomase was local and should have been one of us. Instead he donned his NY nightgown and got right in bed with those other creeps. He could have easily called them out and stuck up for Kraft and Belichick but no, he put himself first and eliminated any perceived allegiance that fans may have seen and stuck it to us. He not only trashed his own future, but cast a veil of doubt over his Boston peers. He is dead to me.

it was because he released his article right before the super bowl without checking his facts. He was greedy and wanted to be the first journalist to make the "story" public. He could have waited until after the super bowl to do it, but he didn't and that article took a lot of wind from the team as they were getting set to play the most important game in team history.

"He’s the greatest quarterback to ever play the game. He goes from being a rookie that nobody is expecting anything from, to taking over with people saying he can’t do it, to winning three Super Bowls....It should already be obvious he’s the greatest quarterback to ever have played. "

Tomase is dead to me. I'll click on a link about him when I believe it's his obituary.

I guess it comes down to whether you believe Tomase made a mistake or was trying to be malicious.

I think he made a mistake. I'm not in the mood to forgive him, and I'm not apologizing for him. But lots of local writers make up all sorts of nonsense all the time, yet don't generate anywhere near the hatred that Tomase gets.

In any event, his stupid non-story wasn't why we lost that game. Hacks like Tomase, or any of the local clowns like Borges or Felger, have NO impact on anything the Patriots do on or off the field.

Michael Fish released his article about 12 hours before Tomase. Not only did he not check his facts, admitted to that he violated one of the fundamental rules of journalism by writing damning allegations by one person towards another without verifying the credibility of the source.

This story was already exploding. The NFL offices were already scrambling because Matt Walsh had the smoking gun to bring down Belichcick. The damge was already done. All Tomase did was give Walsh a little more credibility and give the nation an event to infer what what Walsh had on Belichick.

With or without Tomase, this story was already a major distraction to the Patriots because Greg Bishop wanted to give his hometown team an advantage and Arlen Specter wanted revenge from the Pats stealing his team's Super Bowl ring.

Sorry, he is a reporter. If his story was true, he shouldn't have sat on it because he covers the Patriots. That is wrong. Borges was wrong to do it back in 1986 when he sat on the drug scandal story so it wouldn't be a distraction for the Super Bowl.

If Tomase felt he had a real story, he shouldn't defend the Pats against other reporters.

I know the news has become slanted based on the sources' view points, but that doesn't make it right. I don't want the guys to cover my team to be mindless cheerleaders for the team. I want them to be objective and that includes warts and all.

Tomase's crime was running with the story without properly verifying the story, but it certainly wasn't to play Belichick's or Kraft's PR firm and counter national and NY reports which at that point no one knew what was true or not.

He was trying to make a name for himself and he did it without checking his sources. He succeeded in making a name for himself, just not the name he wanted.
