Default To be loved or hated.

Boston and New York have a longstanding sports rivalary with the Red Sox and Yankees.

And the Yankees are a team pretty much anybody who is not a Yankee fan despises. When the Red Sox play the Yankees pretty much everybody who is a fan of neither team roots for the Red Sox, this has wained a bit since we won the WS, but still the Yankees are the most hated team in baseball in general and Steinbrenner is the most hated person in baseball.

Likewise right now the team pretty much anybody who is not a Patriots fan, want to see the Patriots lose, and are the most hated team in Football right now. And just as Stienbrenner is hated so is Belichick. With the exception of some bitter Dallas fans and some Eli hating Charger fans, pretty much the entire world is rooting for the Giants. Many don't think the Giants can pull it off, but they are rooting for the Cinderella story Giants to defeat the evil empire Patriots.

I can remember back to 2001 when we were the Cinderella, and pretty much everybody was rooting for use to beat the Rams.

The contempt for both stems primarily from dominance and a personality that turns many off of from Steinbrenner and Belichick, along with a perception that each team has "bought their way" to championships instead of drafting.

I have seen several commentators say that the Patriots have become the Yankees of football. So now we sort of have a role reversal.

I am not looking to start a fight about why one ought hate or not hate any of the teams mentioned.

My question is "which do you enjoy more? being a fan of the evil empire Patriots or the lovable Red Soxs?"

I am starting to enjoy being hated more than being loved.

Being hated is obviously better. It means the team is really successful. And the Red Sox are not loved. Just because they aren't hated as much as the Yankees doesn't make them loved.

Anyone that thinks you can buy a Super Bowl is retarded, and should be told as much.

By the same logic, anyone who thinks that football can even have a parallel to the Yankees is also retarded.

I root for Notre Dame (because of Charlie), the Patriots (because I became a fan in 1985 at the tender age of 10) and the Yankees (because I despise the Red Sox)

You can guess my answer to this question.

odd combo. You from Conneticut?

My answer is that jealous losers hate winners. As a Sox fan, I was one of those jealous losers for a long time. Now that my teams are winning, I am glad that I am no longer a jealous loser, but, when they stop winning, I will likely start being one again.

That said, even when my teams suck I still don't feel the need to talk **** about their good rivals.

That would be RED Sox singular or Plural you don't need an "S"

I enjoy being part of the "Evil Empire" much more than loveable Red Sox

As Billy Joel said " I'd rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints, the sinners are much more fun".

Hey, thats my new sig.

I agree. Being a Pats fan right now is about 200 times more enjoyable than being a Sox fan prior to 2004.

The whole hated thing is overstated by Mediots who are either NewYorkers or wannabee's! I used to live in Philly and found that when I've gone back there are many more fans than you'd think who want us to go 19-0. The station WIP was even joking that the only reason we taped the Jets was for comic relief after the game. Sure there are haters, but I heard alot of hate after the "charmed" '01 team won. People were talking about the "tuck" or that it was a conspiracy to let the Patriots win after 911, and even that Brady sucked, had a weak arm and couldn't throw past ten yards. The main source of hatred has come from the spoiled New Yorkers who can't stand to see a Boston team excel and become noticed while they are not!, coupled with a growing list of teams that we school year after year (colts, Steelers, Bolts, Jets). I rooted against Indy, Denver, and Minny when they had their run; so it's only natural, but the media would have you believe that it's because BB and TB are arrogant, Cheaters, (fill in the blank with accusation of the day) etc. The Yankees thing is not valid because of the cap as well as the trading deadline in baseball, which is tailored to help teams that are rich. Let any team play half the season to evaluate their needs and then get big stars to fill in these roles because their current team knows that they can not sign them next season when they become free agents. The yankees also had a habit of getting rid of great players at their position merely because they weren't the absolute best in baseball at their position! I have seen many polls that suggest that there are Pats haters but not as many as they'd like you to believe; they just are very loud!
