Obviously BB expects that there will be a 2012 draft, or he would never have made the trades he did.
But, near the end of tonight's draft coverage, he appeared on NFLN and talked about the OAK trade (2012 2 for 92 and 129). It was very unusual, even by his standards, as it is very rare to make a trade like that well ahead of your pick. BB's reasoning for it was that [paraphrasing] they didn't see anyone on the board this year in rounds 3 or 4 to dissuade them from taking the 2012 2.

Unless BB is psychic I don't see this as a logical reason. We don't know who will enter next years draft and we don't even know what rules will be in place next year. 2012 doesn't even have a strong senoir class because so many underclassmen declared this year. So to bank on underclassmen declaring next year when we have no idea what could happen with the current labor situation is silly. This team has holes now that need to be filled and if we don't make a splash in FA, I think this offseason was a waste. I don't understand how he couldn't see value in this draft when everyone else seems to be able to pick players.

and all these players everyone else is picking bottom third and 4th are going to be starters?
bb has said that he doesn't see the point in picking players to just fill a position --- he drafts players he wants on the team, otherwise he say you just end up redrafting the position to find a better guy the following year.
I'd assume he saw the remaining draft board as not particularly exciting players that couldn't be beaten out by a 2nd rounder next year, and he'll probably be proven right.

Agreed. Call me a homer, I'm fine with that. I'm more than happy to give the benefit of the doubt to the coach with the 14-2 record last year.

It's almost as if he traded a 2011 2nd for a 2012 2nd. Not quite so dire, but it had that feel.
Of course, the last time he did something like that, he traded a late 1st for "little more than" a 1st that became the 7th pick overall, which turned into Mayo + (a bust).

What he said was that he felt a pick at this point is less valuable than a Rd 2 pick and that they already had chosen three players in this round.
