Default Palmer: Should be changes on coaching staff

Palmer told the press how his team needs to put their dismal 2007 season behind them, and come back next year with more discipline and focus. But when asked if the current coaches could do it, Carson replied, “I don’t think so.”

Palmer further suggested that some staff should be shuffled off. Will it actually happen? Carson responded, “I don’t make those decisions. I play quarterback.”

So maybe he should shut the ***** up. I don't care who the coach is, players have nothing to gain by airing the teams dirty laundry to the press.

The inmates run the asylum over there. You do not win Super Bowls like that.

Sounds like Marvin Lewis is about to follow his former mentor (Billick) right out the door.

Turns out for all the hype old Carson is just another million dollar arm fronting a ten cent brain and a queasy stomach to boot when the going is tough. If you're not part of the solution you are part of the problem. That's not what a $90M+ franchise QB is supposed to be. He's supposed to be a leader. There are lots of things wrong with the Bungles. It seems to be karma is one of them.

When talent wins it wants all the credit. When it fails, it's the coaches fault. Lewis is blaming cheap ownership for not hiring a GM and expanding the scouting department. Maybe a smart GM wouldn't have hired him. And Carson's stunned admirers in the media are assuming he's talking about assistant coaches, since a classy guy like him would never undercut his HC in public this cavalierly...LOL

first of all, i agree with those who say that cp shouldn't be saying this stuff to the press. however, he's right. IMO, when a team has as many on and off field breakdowns as these guys, you have to point to the coaches.

The Bengals organization has had problems for years, not getting enough out of their talent. Yes, leaders on such teams get frustrated and want to leave. Palmer and his receivers are pi$$ed. They should be.

You may believe that the players should keep it to themselves. Do you really believe the Palmer hasn't discussed these issues with the Cinci front office on past occasions?

Let me put another way, if Cinci had our coaches from draft day onward, do you think that they would have had a much better record. I do! This was a wasted season for a playoff quality team.

Publicly criticizing your coaching staff is usually the cardinal sin, but I have a lot of sympathy for Palmer in this case. First off, he waited until the season was over so he wasn't creating a distraction that could affect game preparation. I'm sure he was tempted to say the same things many times during the season, so props for waiting. Second, he's right. Cinci's talent-to-achievement ratio has been abysmal, the lockerroom is dysfunctional, and Marvin Lewis & Co. have presided over the whole disgraceful slide.

If you see your team going to hell and nobody in the organization will listen to you, what do you do? Maybe the answer is "just take your paycheck and shut up," but don't we always heap praise on athletes for caring about class and winning and not merely the paycheck?

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer talks with receiver Chad Johnson during a loss to the Patriots.

Except, they also seem to be pissed at each other, often publicly. By his own admission, Palmer let losing get to him early on this season. When you do that, you continue to lose. I watched him some this season and from what I could observe just on broadcast TV, for every drop or brain fart his WR's commit, they make a circus catch to save Carson's bacon risking decapitation in the process. I'm not sure he's consistently adjusting to coverage post snap.

When Ocho Cinco and Whousyourmama flap their gums they get labled as selfish whiners trying to tear the team apart. What's good for the goose... Airing dirty laundry in public is never a viable option.

Lack of discipline is their biggest problem. That falls squarely on the shoulders of their HC and team leaders. Marvin had pretty much free rein in picking his roster. That he chose several known troubled children is not a scouting issue. I remember the smug smile on his face every time he felt he outperformed the FO's who shied away from well flagged talent. We don't shy away from red flags as much as we used to, but that's because our coaches know the core players here have their backs. Players do a lot more policing here than coaches do.

Belichick listens to his players, but the tradeoff is they take the humble pie he serves all of them in stride and to heart. Not so sure Carson or his teamates would be willing to do that. After all, he wants his teamates to just forget about this season... that would be the last thing BB would ever allow them to do until he was convinced they had fixed their mistakes. Palmer must think the players didn't make any, just the stupid coaches...

PS maybe Carson just needs WR's with more character than talent. LOL
