Default What the Hell was Peter King Talking About?

On the NBC show tonight? Something about "hiring a GM" and some "NFL team" will complain, and Parcells specifically asked NOT to be named GM in Miami? Was that some bizarre allusion to Pioli and the way to lure him away is only through a promotion? What kind of blind item bull**** was that??

I read somewhere about how Parcells didn't go after Vinatieri when he was a FA because he respects his coaching tree... I wonder if that still applies when you're a division rival...

I thought I heard or read somewhere the Big Fish was interested in a FO guy from the Cowboys. I know he'd like Tannebaum of the Jets down there.
IMO, anyone taking that job better realize it's very unlikley the Big Fish is just going to sit back and let him do his job with no interference. BB saw what was coming with the Jets. The Big Fish may have wanted freedon when he coached the Patriots, but I don't think he'll do the same as VP of FO.

I heard somewhere that Parcells didn't want to be the GM. He wanted more of a consultative role where he didn't have to be bogged down with the day to day crap the GM has to deal with. He basically gets to call all the shots without dealing with the administrative crap.

As for Pioli, I really doubt that Pioli will move to Miami. Eventhough it would be a title promotion, it would in reality be a demotion. With the Pats, he and Belichick are partners in calling the shots. In Miami, Parcells will be calling the shots on the GM's recommendations.

Why would Pioli move for that?

Sounds right to me ... leaves him free to go to the horse races ... his love.

That's fine, but it doesn't track with the "breaking news" nonsense vibe they gave that item--although I realize they try to hype every little thing they bring up. It was just very lame--King isn't part of a team, he can't "tamper,"--if he's got something to say, he should either say it, or not bring it up at all.

He is likely interested in the personnel guy from Dallas because he promoted him. Unfortuinately he has the same problem with him he'd have with any other guy who is not in charge of football ops at his present position - he would have to be offering him that or his team will be able to block any move as a lateral one. And if he were interested in Tannenbaum he'd be more senile than I think he is...
