Default Jets Game Broken Play Question

Hey everyone,

I did a film breakdown of the broken run play against the Jets last week. Anyone have any idea what happened in this play?
http://patsfilm.blogspot.com/2007/12...e-vs-jets.html

As you can see, Brady couldn't have seen the blitzer, and it seems like Maroney didn't either. Why did he pull it back and scramble?

(PS: an earlier post on my blog notes the win/loss record of teams after playing the pats...I noticed it on this forum later, but I already had the post up. Plus, it goes into a little more depth. Enjoy)

I can't watch the video while I'm at work, but assuming that Brady couldn't have seen a blitz is probably incorrect.

if it's the first busted play early in the game (can't check the vid right now) Brady said on the radio that he eff'ed up the blitz assignments and instead of handing the ball to Marony and having him get blown up in the backfield after noticing the blitzer he decided to freestyle and take off....

Belichick commented on that play during his Monday press conference. Brady DID see the blitzer and knew he'd be in the backfield by the time the ball was handed off to Maroney. The other unplanned QB keeper was a flubbed handoff.

There were two early broken plays that I can think of. On the first one, I think the audible was confused by the players (Maroney?) and was merely a screwed up play. In the second, Brady saw the safety coming unblocked and made the decision to take it himself (applauded by BB).

Yeah, either Brady continued to show his amazing pocket awareness, or Maroney was in the wrong position for the handoff so Brady took it on his own.

brady was completely right to keep the ball, and maroney definitely screwed up not picking up that blitz.

Maroney was the designated ball carrier on that play, it's not his responsibility to pick up the blitz.

it is his responsibility to pick up the blitz when brady doesnt hand him the ball. its his responsibility to not be an idiot. just because it wasnt in the "job description" doesnt mean he should not have done it.

This has got to be a joke, right?
