they cant just get rid of him and his contract so easy. if they cut him they still have to pay full salary. all they can do is trade him and see how much of his contract the new team will take. at the high level they paid him im assuming we'd still have to eat a lot of it

No, the contract was written such that it is easy to terminate after year one. Not so easy in future years.

Yes - and the game before - when the winds weren't 30 mph and there wasn't sleet and freezing rain that made the deep game impossible, the stats were switched.

I'm not saying Gaffney isn't or couldn't supplant Stallworth as the #2 WR... I'm just saying you don't make that statement based on a game where the Patriots OC would have to be CRAZY to put in a deep threat WR when the game conditions and tactics required short passes.

Why is this so confusing for people?

Based on your logic, ignoring that the conditions favored a short passing game over a long one, I suppose everyone here also thinks that Belichick has lost faith in Brady and the passing game?

After all - last week the Patriots passed more than they ran. But this week, they ran more than they passed.

Ergo, the passing game now ranks #2 to the running game as the #1 priority.

Has anyone else noticed a little more chemistry with Gaff and Brady than with the other receivers?

Ive noticed it but i dont know why. I mean i guess hes left to be the open guy most of the time but come on. He's very iffy on some plays.

Not sure but maybe it's because Gaffney introduced TB to Giselle?

If it wasn't for Moss I think Stallworth was going to be the deep threat, but once they got Moss Donte's role diminished greatly. I still think he can be a great weapon, but I certainly don't anticipate the Patriots keeping him at his current salary. That was something I think most of us new the day he signed.

I'm in the same boat. It has nothing to do with this season, but Gaffney and CJ battle it our for the #2 opposite Moss next season. Stallworth is worth the money with the plethora of other cheaper options next year. Keep Washington as the #5 ST/WR if they think his cap hit is a good value in that role.

I think Gaffney has the advantage of an additional year of continuity with Brady. So, I think he is probably better with option routes and the like. I think the team believes that having higher awareness is more valuable than a better athletic skill set.

Obviously, Stallworth is a much more physically tallented player. I also think that Brady has been missing Stallworth a lot lately. He was open several times working out of that cluster set yesterday. It's a shame to pass him up on the 2,3 and 4 routes he has been running, especially when he is cleared in an iso situation. I have never seen someone as dangerous after the catch...the dude's a beast. It's disapointing to see such a great player so underutilized in this system. I hope he has a monster year next year with whoever signs him.
