The idea that Belichick would give up on any season is hilarious, nevermind a season in which his team was 3-1 and coming off a 41-14 road win over a division rival.

On a side note, Randy Moss' numbers since the trade are stunningly bad, especially with Tennessee. Wow.

Look, I honestly don't think his job description is "accuracy and information". I'm not being facetious at all - - it's just that it is a business and he is slotted to write something that will get eyeballs on it - -doesn't have to be accurate. It's a business.

Columnists are like the clowns at the rodeo. Look at Woody Paige or Jay Mariotti or Michael Felger. Believe it or not, I think these folks are probably average to above average minds - - they are just playing a part - - like a pro wrestler. It's the job description of a columnist versus a reporter. Look at the transformation of Chris Gasper when he made the switch. He used to be a reliable go-to for good info, now he's just any rodeo clown. Not all his fault - - he's just doing what his editors want him to do in this market.
A big part of the problem is he has to write a certain numbers of columns and that exceeds the amount of commentary he can produce that's worth reading.

Maybe if his ilk took a pay cut and did a column once per month or six weeks; he would be worth reading.

However, this dilemma did produce an opening and patsfans.com was born.

Does this mean Mey Blo! is an internet Wrong Borges?

This is his only column?

Can you imagine Randy Moss with Danny Woodheads attitude?

He would have been the greatest WR to ever play the game IMO.

I can't believe any writer (and Shaughnessy's not the only one) would ever think BB gave up on a season. He's certainly made a lot of decisions with the future in mind, but that hardly means giving up on any single year, especially with 12 games to go. Just absolutely stupid, pure nonsense written to drive ratings and page hits instead of actually putting together anything insightful for fans.

Yeah, I guess it was written to drive up page hits and it's too bad it works. It would be much more fitting if statements so absurd resulted in people just not even bothering to read what the guy has to say anymore. I don't enjoy reading someone's "opinion" when it's clearly made up to create controversy. It's just fake and lame. So I just no longer pay any attention to what they say.

Not to rehash your personnel moves, but this one blows my mind. Shooting his way out of New England, Randy Moss lost more than he can ever make up in a new free agent contract. What's more, he'd need to do a third major image overhaul to be marketable after football. Where's his agent to explain that?

And just to digress even more, Adam Vinatieri essentially made the same mistake. He got a few dollars more in Indianapolis, but failed to recognize the decades of endorsements he could mine in the Boston market after football. Now, he gets none of that. In Indy, with Peyton Manning, he'll get none of that.

Where are these agents to explain these things?

I now return you to your discussion of Mr. Shaughnessy, his glorious curls, and his lifetime tenure at the Globe.

Same here. It's not to say that Shaughnessy or Felger don't have valid points at times, but they blow them up to such ridiculous levels that there's no way either of them could possibly believe half the things they write and still be considered mentally-competent adults.

What has happened to Moss is very sad. I liked him a lot as a Patriot but he really made a mess of things this year. As for Vinatieri, I agree, and while he'll always be a hero, he could have been a special kind of legend had he stayed. I'll always remember what he did for us, but it is kind of sad that he left, and it did change how I felt about him a bit.

Moss fired his longtime agent earlier this year. Looking at the events as they have unfolded since, I can't help but wonder now if his former agent was perhaps telling him things he didn't want to hear.

It's ironic how his demands for a big payday are going to cost him ... a big payday.
