Default Tiebreakers vs. Jets

OK, it's early to worry about a divisional tie, but if we finish behind the Jets, we could have the #2 record in the whole NFL and get the #5 seed in the playoffs. Here's what I've noticed. If we tie the Jets with a great W-L record, here's how it could go:
  • First of all, we basically have to beat the Jets next time, so I'll assume here that we will. To end up tied with the Jets, we "get" to lose another game elsewhere.
  • Head to head we'd be tied, divisional record probably tied.
  • Next up is common opponents. Here's the good news. Jets lost to Baltimore. If we lose to Indy, it won't hurt us as much as that Jets loss hurts them, since Jets don't play Indy. We DID play the Ravens, so we're now ahead of the Jets. (Jets loss vs. Green Bay = our loss vs. Cleveland.)
  • If, on the other hand, our "extra" loss comes vs. Green Bay, we're tied with NYJ on that point and it goes to Conference record, and we'd be tied there.
  • If it goes to the next criterion, strength of victory, it should help that we lost to Cleveland. Root for Baltimore to win a few more games....

Way to early to even worry about this stuff, we still have 7 games left

And LOL @ Around the Horn. They were talking about the Patriots and said this team isn't good because of the defense. Even though it was statistically skewed from the fourth quarter, did they even watch the game? They also said the Patriots weren't that good because they've only beat three teams with winning records. But of course they took their chance to perform fellatio on the Jets, who've only beat two teams with winning records.

Interesting point, but I think beating Indy this week is the key. Then beating the Lions. Then beating the Jets. Basically if we win all the games for the rest of the year we can't lose.

Right now we are even with them in the common opponents because we beat the Ravens who beat them. They beat the Browns who beat us, so those 2 scenarios cancel each other out. The Steelers could help us out alot in this regard when they play the Jets, that is a big game for us.

The most 'losable' AFC game we have left is Indy since that's not a common opponent. The rest of the games are common.

They have a slight advantage since 1 loss is to an NFC team so if we do beat them, but lose another game, it would preferably be one of the NFC games.

All we need to worry about is keeping pace with them and of course, winning that game against them. That's what I try to tell myself everytime they win one of these squeakers.

We have an einstein posting! Yes, we all know that if we win all our games, we can't lose the division.

as the op was pointing out they have a loss vs a team we have on our schedule so we could trump them there.

They also lost to GB who is a common opponent.

This season of NFL football has been unpredictable at best... Jets lose to the Packers, Houston losing to everyone after beating the Colts in game one, the Cowboys destroying the Giants, Raiders destroying the Broncos and possessing a winning record, etc.

With that said, if the Patriots can sneak into the playoffs, Coach Belichick could wreck havoc on opponents with his player preparation and second half adjustments. But my overall expectations are tempered by the defense that is far from dominant.

Fourth quarter stats aside, the Patriots' rookies are playing far beyond expectations and I'm wondering when/if they will come back to Earth. While I have no expectations of the rookies carrying this team to a conference title, I am hopeful for years to come; the years that will include Ty Warren, Leigh Bodden and a pro-bowl running back.

So I guess I'm with Around the Horn.

It's early yet...but so far the Pats strength of schedule have them winning games vs teams with a .508 win %.
The Jets, on the other hand are beating teams with a combined win % of .380.

Pats have lost to only ONE team with a winning record (NYJ) and that was early on..rookies have matured abit now and Welker is healed more.....Branch healthy and contributing makes a difference also....

Jets are eeking em out...last 4 wins are against teams with a total of 11 wins....

Color me not impressed.....
