Default Rodney Harrison just wants guys to be protected

Like he wasn't in part because he didn't know better. He does now.

Great quote about how football will survive and thrive because the game is all about adjustments...

Is there any particular reason for us having about 10-20 threads on what is essentially the same subject, especially when Harrison's comments have been brought up a number of times already, by the same posters even...

Default Rodney's influence

Hey, how much do you all think what Harrison had to say on Football Night in America had to do with the handing down of these fines by the League.

I think it did make a difference, it's not like these hits are new to football. I mean maybe the problem is that the League should enforce the rules and we wouldn't get to this point.

I just think his comments seemed to kick this whole thing into a higher gear...

I would say Rodney's comment about money did not matter, but the suspensions did matter to him was the driving factor behind this whole thing.

I would be inclined to think that after such a weekend the NFL was prepared to make such a move. Whether or not Rodney's comments were the driving factor, which I dont beleive they were, they were definitely profound and probably solidified the decision for the NFL..

Now we will have to see how they are inforced... Are they going to go easier on the big time players for the big time franchises? Will they Suspend someone after the fact even when there was no foul called in the game?

It could have serious implications come playoffs! But clearly somthing needs to be done.

Rodney knows the situation from both sides and isn't afraid to talk about it, even if it makes him look bad. He is an honest and intelligent man whose remarks should be and I think are taken seriously. I'm sure that the idea of suspension was in the air before he talked about it, but his comments have helped prepare both the fans and the players for this new penalty. I believe few suspensions will be handed out, but that the threat of them will change player behavior.

That is the biggest thing about all of this for me. You play a marginal team, a divisional opponet let's say, and your starting safety or star linebacker is out. Losign a game like that on a play or series of plays that you think the suspended player could have handled....against a divisional opponet, were talking millions of dollars of revenue potentially lost.

Tough sledding for the NFL on this one for sure...but as Rodney said, that would have a huge impact inside a lockerroom...

It certainly was a factor. He didn't say anything most of us didn't already know that a $10,000 fine on a guy making $5 million a year isn't much of a deterrent.

A bit off topic...I have friend who works in a downtown city where the nearest parking lot is 3 blocks away and cost $20 per day. She parks right in front of the building illegally and every day gets a $35 parking ticket. To her with her $200k+ salary she says the extra $15 is just a cost of doing business. It really isn't anything different. If they raised the fine to $100 per day she would start walking but with the fine so small relative to her income and the inconvenience, it isn't a deterrent.

I beleive rodney's involvement in the matter, and the article on NFL.com about him being remorseful about his actions as a player has more to do with him winning over the hall of fame voters. Rodney has to win over the writers that vote the hall of fame players. he has the stats to get in but he has the dirty player title and the HGH episode hanging over his head. now he has to become the likable player. I love rodney but I cant help but feel that he's trying to win over the sport writers who will have to vote him in.
