Meanwhile, New England cornerback Randall Gay recently sounded off regarding the perception that the team is running up the score.

"It kind of makes me mad when you hear somebody from the other team's defense going, 'They shouldn't have done that; that's disrespect.' Do we think it's disrespect when they went and picked up their checks for letting a team score 50 points on them? That should be disrespect; that you went to your owner and said, 'All right, pay me for that game I just played.'"

The comments are amazing, but not surprising. Coach Bill Belichick and his staff have to be saying something to these guys to get them motivated to perform at a high level every week, and you can bet that the sound bites from Brady and Gay are the result of seeds that have been planted by Belichick and company ever since the media and the fans started questioning the tactics of the best team the NFL has seen in a long, long time.

UPDATE: Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe has contacted us to explain that Brady actually said "we're trying to kill teams" not "we're trying to kill people." So Brady apparently wants to commit murder 53 people at a time.

Bet how ? how will you prove it ?

Okay, I poked some fun earlier at Tom Brady's statement that the Patriots want to "kill teams." (And when we said that Brady wants to murder people, we were joking. Although isn't always the mild-mannered guy who ends up being the serial killer?)

Anyway, I pulled up the audio of the entire interview, and Brady's broader point makes sense. He was saying that the Pats want to play the full 60 minutes, and that they want to get as much experience in game situations now, so that they'll be ready when the playoffs come around.

Brady also pointed out that he has had limited experience with his top three receivers -- Randy Moss, Wes Welker, and Donte' Stallworth. So Brady wants to get as many live reps with them as possible, before the games really start to count.

Still, Brady's remark will be used both as motivation by their opponents (so that maybe they'll lose by only 19 points or less) and fuel for those who want to hate them.

Of course, hating them won't make a difference.

"We love it when people give us extra motivation," Brady said.

Brady's broader point DOES make sense. As much as Florio is a douche, at least he does point this out.

Here's what I suggested on another thread (ESPN: "Brady Sounds off" post #45):

OK, here's a sample of things he should have said...

"Gee whiz, I thought, really thought, the whole point of the game was to score points! Oh, well, I'll talk to coach about it."

"It really, really bothers me that we're not 5-5, or maybe even 4-6."

"You know, you gentlemen may have something there. I'm gonna talk to Randy and Donte and Wes and see if we can't arrange it so they'll drop a few passes here and there, ya know, just so we get invited to the post-game beerfest and can mingle without having a lot of tension in the room."

"I have absolutely no intention of 'killing the other team'. Cripes, that would be akin to killing puppies!"

"Since everyone in the league makes pretty much the same money, I guess it's a good idea that we all have pretty much the same records, and pretty much the same points-for totals and points-against totals. That would undoubtedly do a lot to expand the popularity of the league."

"It's obvious to me, and has been for some time now, that what the NFL is really all about is mollifying sports writers and TV talking heads. Frankly, I don't know what's gotten into us, but you can bet your bottom dollar that that's going to stop - pronto!"

Yeah, Brady wants to destroy other teams as opposed to the other 31 QBs in the league who find 3 point nailbiters MUCH more enjoyable.

This is so overblown it's not even funny.

I'm sick of the complaining about the Patriots running up the score. I think Brady is bringing the right "thought process" to every game and I think Gay put it all into a (although odd) perspective. Hey, if the opponents want to put their "B" guys in at the start of the third quarter, that is their decision. They can't expect the Pats to follow up the move of their opponent and put in Cassel et al. The Pats gotta stay strong for four quarters and if their opponents want to prepare for the next week by sitting their starters for a quarter or more, than they shouldn't wonder why they play below their ability.

And I'm not saying that they all pull their starters, but maybe the defense should have some respect for themselves and play hard for all four quarters. It ain't easy to play your heart out when your losing by more than 20 points, but Gay said it right: you need to earn that paycheck no matter what the score is (at least that is how I take it to mean).

And who can deny the psychological warfare going on when your following opponent sees that you demolished the team before them and the team before that. And who can deny that there is some kind of effect from having your opponent a 16 point under dog or 20 point under dog.

Critics can stuff it. Their not going to like the Patriots if they pulled their starters or took a knee for the entire fourth quarter. They came down on the Pats for the camera thing, they are all in love with Peyton and they have had a field day with Belichick's on field attire since day one. I beat it is pretty popular to not like the Patriots right now and scoring a few less touchdowns isn't going to make a difference.... so stuff it!

What a moron. Next he will go beserk when he finds out Brady is throwing bombs, and invoke the Patriot Act.

I can only assume that he is failing miserably at trying to be funny.

I think all this anti-Patriot talk has made most Pats fans extra touchy. When you’re the big dog in the NFL everyone likes to poke fun, it comes with the territory.

That's not true at all. It is much, much easier to criticize those that are on top. But criticism should be expected when you're are on top. You're right about that. But NO team should have to take insult after insult and be called cheaters & classless all season long.

Patriots fans are as proud as any fan base in the country and to have to listen to all that we have endured all season long is unprecidented in NFL history. How can you say we are over-sensitive? Have you no pride?

Name one other GREAT team that has had to endure the criticism the Patriots have received this year. No matter what your perspective, you can not say it is deserved, that would be an outright lie.
