I'm bringing this up, NOT because I think the Pats will score 100 against the Jets, but because of the fact that my high school football team faced a similar situation.
We had an upcoming game against our rivals, and coming into it, we were one of the highest rated teams in the state, and they were one of the lowest. There was still an intense hatred for them, because they had beaten us five or six years in a row before we demolished them 48-14 the previous year.
So this time around, our team had gotten much better, and their team lost a lot of their seniors, so we came into this game expecting a HUGE blowout. One of the players on our team blurted out "we could score 100 points on this team," and we all exploded with laughter, but deep down inside, that's exactly what we wanted to do.
Game day comes, and on the OPENING KICKOFF, we score a safety. The next kickoff, we returned for a touchdown. However, immediately we realized that 100 points was not going to happen. Why? Because the other team's coach decided to run the play clock down on EVERY play, so that the score wouldn't look so bad. At halftime, we were only up 30-0, and we were pissed.
But anyway, what are the chances of the same thing happening with the Jets? Anyone see Manginious deploying some tactics to melt the clock from the first quarter on?

The State of CT, in an attempt to speed up the pussification of our citizens, has decided that if a h.s. football team wins by (I believe) 50 pts. or more that the coach will be suspended for the next game. The whining by opposing fans and mediots hardly comes as a surprise to me. It's just par for the course.
BTW, that was our tactic for basketball and football since as a suburban school we played in a conference with mostly big-city schools with a lot larger talent pool and better athletes. You could tell it frustrated the hell out of them, but it was the only way we could keep it within 30 or 40 pts!

Melting the clock like that requires that a team actually be able to score first downs.
More importantly, it doesn't help when your opponents can score a TD in under a minute if they want to.

I hate to argue with a fellow CT person, but that's not quite what the rule says. What the rule says is that if a team wins by 50+, the coach will be suspended unless he makes a bona fide effort not to run up the score (i.e., if you pull your starters when it's 49-0, or start running on every down up 52-7, you're not going to get suspended if your team keeps scoring). That exemption has been invoked at least once this year.
I don't have much of a problem with the rule; there's no perfect solution (as some people have noted, using a running clock in a blowout reduces the amount of playing time for second/third-string players), but I think this is a reasonable balance.

HAHA rules to TELL coaches how to coach their team. What the hell is this world coming too. We really have to stop allowing rules to be made because SOMEONE might get "offended" otherwise.
Let's go easy on the CT rule. This is not like the pros or college where each team has an equal footing (albet more hypothetical in college).
In HS, you have a limited talent pool which cn be limited just by the size of your school. I'm sure Brocton kids work hard, but having a pool of 5000 or so high schoolers must help too.
No need to pile on in HS just because the "real world" can be like that.
The Patriots will probably treat it like any other game. It’s certainly possible they can score 70 in that context, although doubtful. To score that many, you’d likely have to run no-huddle for most of the game, get four defensive turnovers, keep trying to score until the final gun, including running out of bounds, calling timeouts, using fake spikes, etc.
It seems the prevalent thought among NE fandom is that Belichick wants to play full throttle for 60 minutes and bury Mangini for tarnishing his legacy. My thinking is that Belichick is going to do what is best for his football team, and going out of his way to embarrass the Jets really isn’t accomplishing anything towards that end.

I am beginning to think that this will be more of a game than people think. 60 points ain't gonna happen people. Think 34-14.
I agree. What makes everyone think the Jets are just going to lie down and let us roll over them? It shouldn't be a contest, but then I'd be surprised if we put up 50 on them.
Yeah, I've been thinking the same thing. When I used to play Madden and was pretty good I tried, on rookie level, to see how much I could score in a game. Going deep almost exclusively, kicking on-sides and going for the 2-pt. conversion every time, and I still ended up with totals in the 130-160 range.
Now the Pats (presumably) won't be kicking onsides, won't be going for 2, and won't go deep on every play. Even if they have a perfect game, shut out the Jets on offense and score on reasonably quick drives, I don't see them scoring more than 80. And even that, to me, is completely unrealistic.
All that said, I do see an utter massacre happening that day, something similar to the Bills game. The real question will be: 4th quarter, up by 6 scores, does Brady stay in the game? It seems that alot of people EXPECT Belichick to run it up the entire game, just never take his foot off the gas. But if there's one game that Brady gets hurt, imo, it's the Jets game. At some point, down by 8 scores late in the 4th with Brady still in there, someone's gonna be pissed off and take matters into his own hands. And that scares me.
