Default Offensive Line - First Half vs Colts

Being a canuck I do tend to watch Kaczur when he is protecting Brady and I must say in the first half he looked pretty bad. He got beat twice pretty easily, although correct me if I am wrong there was no tight end over there on those plays to help him out.

Actually even Light, now that I think of it, got called for tripping so I guess it wasn't all the right side. Wonder if they will give more thought to playing Ryan in the near future. I am sure one bad game gets you closer, if not in, the doghouse with BB...

just my observation...

Freeney and Mathis are hard to block. They are going to be disruptive in the passing game since that is what they are paid to do. My take on the 2 sacks:

1) This looked like it was set up to go to Faulk and Kaczur just needed to slow down Mathis a little to let the D retreat downfield. The spin move obviously surprised him. I still think Brady could have gotten the ball to Faulk but he must have thought the chances for a turnover were too great and he just tucked it in. Conclusion: Kaczur came out flat...learning experience.

2) Just speed baby. Combine that with a deep set by Brady and the play had no chance. Kaczur might have been able to chip Mathis better, but no way he keeps him from getting around the edge. Conclusion: Mathis guessed right and made the play...good for him.

Other than that, Brady got reasonable pressure through the first 3 quarters, but nothing he couldn't handle. The pass the fluttered to Moss as Brady was being hit was a little dicey though. This OL (Kaczur included) has played really well together and I didn't see anything in this game to think that a change is needed. If improvements are needed, the current group of "Metaphors" should be up to the task.

Freeny and Mathis are both spin-move artists. Shouldn't they have practiced that in the week leading up to the game? I said almost exactly that when Brady was sacked the first time.

I don't think having the tazmanian devil himself at practice could help you prepare for those spin moves.

Also don't forget it was a silent snap count, so the defense can be just as quick to react as the O-line. Couple that with their speed, and its a long day trying to handle those guys 1 on 1. I thought they did OK considering the circumstances, and thought they did a great job pushing them around in the running game.

If the Patriots offense started the first offensive series running the ball, at least the play action pass would slow down the Colts defensive pass rush. I honestly expected an offensive game plan by the New England Patriots similar to the one against the Washington Redskins.

Refer to the first offensive series for the New England Patriots versus the Washington Redskins as the definitive example.

But that is exactly what the Colts would be expecting. But the Pats knew that they would be expecting that. Maybe the Colts knew that the Pats knew that they knew...
