Default Gaffney Factor

Noticed that Jabar only had 1 or 2 catches a game UNTIL last week.
Last week he had four and one for 21 yards. He seemed to be more part
of this offense, maybe to sharpen his timing with TB during a game.

So ... this week. PATs can put 4 WRs on the field at the same time
that Tom has confidence in. Think spread offense.
How will that stress the Colts D with 3 of them that really need
double teams. How good is Cots dime package?
Think there might be some mismatches?

I was rewatching the Redskins game and Gaffney really caught my eye with his quickness and making catches in the middle of the field.

He goes down a bit easier than Welker, probably due to Welker being so quick it is difficult to hit him squarely, but does anyone else think that in the absence of Wes, Gaffney could do a decent job as slot WR?

We can do a lot of stuff if the OL can surive against the pass rushers which is made more difficult by the noise.

If the OL plays as well as it has all year, I expect well see some of everything including sets with no RB and Moss, Stallworth, Welker, Gaffney and Watson. More often, though, take Gaff out of that and replace him with Maroney or Faulk which gives lots of offensive options plus some extra protection options with a RB in there.

I have always been very high on Gaffney. When we were able to pick him up off the scrap heap last year, I was ecstatic. IMO, he was our number 1 wr at the end of the year last year. The catch he made in the back of the end zone in the Colt game was unbelievable! I think that he is a number 2 guy on most NFL rosters. To have him as our number 4 speaks volumes for the talent catching the ball from TB this year.

Dunno about The Hut being a #2 on most NFL rosters but I think he's a solid backup. He's not a slot guy like The Wanker; he reminds me more of Givens in his speed & physical prowess. Were the superstars not here, he'd be a fine #2 Patriots style.

I am not bashing Gaffney at all. I think he did a great job last year and I am glad he is still with us. But, lets be honest, he had two big catches in garbage time. Maybe even using the term garbage time is not correct because the third quarter was already garbage time.

I would be thrilled if he has a break out game and he has put up big numbers before so it is possible but what happend last week in the fourth quarter means nothing

Against the Redskins, Tom Brady seriously overthrew a wide open Jabar Gaffney near the left hash mark towards the end of the first quarter.

3-7-NE 49 (:04) (Shotgun) 12-T.Brady pass incomplete deep left to 10-J.Gaffney.

I'm glad to see Gaffney mentioned. He knows how to tool the Colts even when there is no Moss on the field.

More and more I'm seeing Moss' true value as being a decoy that literally removes two dbs from the area of action. He may be the greatest decoy in the history of the game.

The other guys should have a great day today. Since Bill always rolls out something unexpected, my wild guess is that Gaffney's number gets called more than the average game.

Gaffney may be a big factor because he can work the first 10 yards of the firld. Against the Colts D, the short inside passing game has to be your bread and butter.

I'd say Welker is the most likely player to burn the Colts for 100 yards, but they might gameplan him by putting a quick coverage LB on him.
