Post-game chatter
By Mike Reiss, Globe Staff

...

DL Phillip Daniels was in the latter category, citing going for it on fourth down in the second half as the wrong approach. The Patriots were in Redskins territory both times.

"That's running up the score, there isn't any other way to look at that," Daniels said. "C'mon, man, you're going for it on fourth down and you're up by 38 points. You're throwing the ball late in the game. Most teams just run the clock out to get the win. They don't think like that, but I guess it's our job to stop them. You can't do anything about it, just go out and play defense and try to stop them."

Daniels was asked if he puts that in the back of his mind for the future.

"You do. I'll never forget that. I've never had a team do that to me," he said.

The stupidity is astounding. He would rather the Patriots kick a field goal and score points.

He should have just mentioned how the Patriots were going to the air and leave it at that. Yes, that was running up the score.

By the way, no one is mentioning the fact that the tuck rule should have been invoked on Colvin's TD.

well..why is jason campbel in the game then ? why are they doing an onside kick ? why are they throwing from their 1 yard line with 20secs to go..
i just wish someone from the pats asks these questions. Pats get a lot of bad rap because they dont answer questions.

The only thing relevant in that article was the mention that Kyle Brady didn't play in the second half and was possibly injuried. That is something I don't like to hear.

As far as what the Redskin players felt, I don't give a crap.

Clearly you haven't been paying attention.

It became illegal when the Patriots started doing it.

I don't think it's the running up of the score that has everyone's panties in a bunch, it's the fact that the Pats are doing it every single week. It's not something that has ever happened before...we're now at the halfway point and the pats have blown out EVERY SINGLE TEAM, including two of the best teams in the NFC and the Browns and Chargers, who should be fighting for playoff positions down the stretch.

People are afraid of and intimidated by things they don't understand. This team, this collection of Pro Bowl talent across the entire roster, just doesn't happen in the NFL's vision of parity (and, for that matter, it wasn't happening 20, 30, 40 years ago, either). So they see a team that has no choice but blow teams out week after week (I mean, can you really call the dogs off in hte 3rd quarter every single week?), and their fear turns to anger. That's it and that's all.

The stupidity surrounding the issue of "running up the score" regarding going for it on fourth down is astounding. I don't understand how SO MANY people can be SO stupid. Why would anyone with any dignity ever want something to be HANDED to them? The ONLY gripe anyone can have is when the pats go to the air LATE in the game. However, we don't exactly have a bruising clock-killing corey dillon type running back on the roster. But regardless that is the ONLY gripe people can have with "running up the score" that isn't just plain wrong and stupid.

A field goal's ONLY purpose is for POINTS when you NEED POINTS. Period end of story. A punt's ONLY purpose is field position when you NEED the field position. Period end of story. Going for it, as others have said numerous times on this board, is the ONLY option. Throwing late in the game is a much more debatable topic.
