Default Counter arguments

Ok here's the deal - in my opinion.

Yes - this scandal hurt us. I have been depressed since last Monday when the news broke. PATS were my claim to greatness! I loved flaunting them as my favorite team but you know what - people still hated them. Called them lucky, tuck rule, system QB, never won after Weiss and Crennel left, blah blah blah. Now they can easily say one thing - Cheats. It is horrible but it somethign we have to deal with.

However, on the plus side, I think deep down they all know that this was a farce. They will never say it but i am sure they believe it. If anything else comes out - then we might be doomed but as of now I think we have gotten out of jail so to speak.

What we need to do is get some good facts to counter the jealous whiners! Any suggestion? I can think of a few like

"Its not cheating, just a violation of rules - stealing signals is allowed"
"Jimmy Johnson said he did the same thing"
"If it helped us so much - how come we haven't won the past 2 years? How come we have lost to the Dolphins the last 3 yeras whenever we play them for second time".

Any other rejoinders would be welcome......

Simple fact is they were taping what an entire statium of people could watch. The only rule they broke was having a cameraman in the wrong place.

I wonder why the Video Info did't help us in the
2nd half of the AFC championship last year

that 2nd half was brutal!

Actually our offense played pretty well - it was our defense that messed up.

What I've been telling noobs is that if only violating rules "outside the game" is cheating. Then we'll just have players intentionally rough the passer and injure QB's to win games. Thats not cheating.. right?

I just shrug and say "yeah, what's up with those cheaters?"
Completely diffuses the situation then I can interject questions like: "how does something like that even help them?" or "Why video tape something in plain sight?" etc etc. I end up with them commiserating rather than berating.

Like when the haters would line up to rub my face in it after the AFCC game last year, I would just reply: "Well, if you can't stop the run you can't win a playoff game." They'd just shut up or complain that I wasn't fun to tease.

This week, no one has made a peep.

I was disappointed at first, and even called it cheating. But in the last couple of days I've been convinced by listening to coaches and others that the Pats couldn't use the video to benefit in THAT game, and that coaches change their signals frequently enough that trying to anticipate what the signals would be NEXT game would most likely be fruitless. I am comfortable with the theory that BB was using the info to get a profile of a coaches tendencies and personality given certain game situations. I've changed my mind, BB wasn't cheating, but he did break a rule he was told specifically not to.

I love the analogy someone in another thread gave, BB jaywalked in front of a cop that had told him to stop jaywalking. Stupid, arrogant, deserving of punishment, but hardly cheating.

Time will tell what effect if any, this will have on his legacy.
