Default Callahan article on BB

A good read:
http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/f...icleid=1032305

-"It is worth noting that some of the people who were most outraged at Belichick’s subterfuge - we speak of the New York fans at the Jets-Pats game in the Meadowlands - cheered when their gutsy quarterback hobbled off the field in agony. Oh, but a camera. Those classless losers draw the line at a camera."

-"So take his money. Take the draft pick. Brand him like a prize cow, if it makes you feel better. But in the end, Belichick was doing what he has always done, what he was hired to do, when he sent his camera boy onto the sidelines at Giants Stadium. He was looking for an edge, anything to help his team win a game, like he does every week, like every coach who hopes to last longer than a house plant does."

-"Just as there is no crying in baseball, there is no conscience in football, at least not in NFL football. The truth is there’s no ethical line. That’s why a great man like Dick MacPherson was gone after two seasons with the Patriots, and another terrific guy, Pete Carroll, ended up in college, where there is still a few slots open for well-adjusted human beings in the coaching ranks."

-"It is only fitting that in a week the rest of the world was calling for Belichick’s head on a stick, it was revealed the Patriots gave him a contract extension through 2013. He is an arrogant, cheating, ruthless, rule-breaking maniac, and all of New England is damn lucky to have him."

Belichick's like a football computer... sometimes, a little too much.

I did like this comment...

Quote:
If only I had a column of my own. It's hard to etch to portrait of a coach so masterful in his orchestral manipulations of all things football, and challenging to provide justice to a man so versed in NFL lingua-franca as Bill Belichick. This man will surely go down as one of the most simultaneously revered and curiously misunderstood minds that has ever risen above his perspective sport. An inspiration, an enigma; an Icarus, a Herculean mind; an artist, a victim. To be given the opportunity to summate Bill Belicheck's role in the NFL is like being burdened with the task of encapsulating Bobby Fisher's role as an American mental warrior. Flawed? yes. Beyond? certainly. And to pontificate further is only an exercise in both futility and hubris.

I hate Callahan on so many levels and was sad to see him come back and then he goes and writes something that makes sense.

Although his Carl Everett / Jimy Williams article where he has them having a fictional conversation is one of the funniest pieces ever.

There's only two conclusions for Patriots fans on rookies. They are either a bust or being fitted for their bust in Canton.

You missed my point that Callahan's perspective on this issue has somewhat redeemed him for me. His take on other issues and more to the point his inflexible nature of debate where he takes the most extreme microcosm and uses that to defend his perspective drives me nuts.
