Made by Peyton after last season's regular season game:

Quote:
On 4th quarter interception
I can’t tell exactly, [Chad] Scott made a good play. I’m not exactly sure he was supposed to be there or not. You know, sometimes that happens. You know, fouled up the coverage and I thought I had a good assessment of it. He was just kind of in the right place at the right time, he made a good play, I’ll say that. I thought I had a pretty good read. Usually I feel like I kind of know what’s happening; guys don’t really pop-up that I don’t see all too often. I’m not sure that he was supposed to be there, but he was and he caught it and that’s really the end of the story and I should’ve avoided that turnover.
Just sayin'...

(How would Peyton know that Scott wasn't supposed to be there?)

Anybody else confused in what that point is? Are you saying that the QB wouldn't know what defense they were in?

No, I'm saying that Peyton saw the defense and knew somehow that Chad Scott wasn't lined up where he was assigned to.

(I don't think Peyton knows the Pats' defense that well.)

Because he read the defense. There's not much more to it. Peyton's pretty good at that... like Brady. I wouldn't read more into that.

I bet Peyton bought a video tape of our audibles, so no worries, it's legal!

He does read defenses well, especially in the second half. Sometimes he still really seems to struggle with that in the first half, I'll admit. But I'm sure it's just coincidence. He's so cerebral, you know, he just settles down in the second half and he and his OC make tremendous halftime adjustments. Since 2005 anyway.

It's called reading the defense.
Good QBs do that quicker than the lesser QBs.

Let's not go all Brian Dawkins here.
Dawkins says the Patriots were able to pick up the blitz in the Super Bowl almost like they "knew it was coming".
After all, who could possibly anticipate Jim Johnson's Eagle defense blitzing?
And then to have the where-with-all to throw screen passes against that?

Even though you're Peyton Manning, it's conceivable you're telegraphing where the ball is going -- and I don't think Manning is saying anything more than that. Not that he had our signals, not that we had their signals, just that he "wasn't supposed to be there," as in, you thought you had it together, but didn't.

Of course, if it's yet another accusation on Peyton's part, albeit from 2006, well, Peyton can get stuffed. As it turns out, a lot of people must have had his signals last year, given the number of interceptions in the playoffs.
