Of course it is Rodney's influence! But Geno still needed to make the play. I really don't know what your point is here.

The point from the beginning is that he's been a serviceable player, but I've not been too enamoured with his game at FS and would like to see that position upgraded.

That is why we drafted a FS in round 1 this year. It may be a bit too soon to throw the rookie into the mix, I would prefer to at least start with the 4 year veteran. If Geno plays well then it is a win-win, if he struggles then we have options to back him up.

From what I have seen I am far more comfortable with a healthy Wilson covering Dallas Clark than Merriweather. Shockey undresses the rookie a couple times on very simple routes.

But, other than 2005 which we all agree no one was good, you have yet to explain what it is that Wilson doesn't do.

Or, better stated, your explanations don't seem to be backed up by what I have seen. You position on him is clear, but I don't see how anyone could possibly come to that conclusion unless they base 80% of their opinion on 2005.

Cutting Wilson would just be stupid as he's our best FS at the moment and doesn't have a big cap number. It's going to hurt the team if he's not ready for the first few weeks.

I agree this guy has been injury prone. Way too much for my taste. But personally I haven't seen too many bad games out of him when he is healthy and has Rodney beside him. I just hope some of you are not basing your opinion of one game called Super Bowl 38 against him. Up to that point he played like a probowler. Since then we've mysteriously seen very little from him.

He was projected as a 1st round pick at corner (I believe we traded up in #2 to get him). He was switched to safety before he had any chance to play corner, that i can remember.

So what do you base that opinion on?

I love the way Geno is capable of playing and would be crushed to see him in a new jersey.
You forget a few short years ago he had more talent and potential then A$$ante Samuel.
He was laying out big hits in big games had a few interceptions and had great chemistry with Rodney.
I'm on board saying let's sign both him and Gay to fair contracts now and allow there injuries to get them at cap friendly hometown discounts now.
Watch Assante sweat and if he's a pat next year great!
If not we have Big Vince to lock up.
Also we have the luxury of 2 first round picks to wheel and deal next draft and find solid or even spectacular db's in the draft.

Put the number on there for that year. And the next year we start all over again everybody is at the same point."

Have people on this site had private workouts wit Wilson and determined he couldn't play corner?

Here is ESPN draft tracker and the only question is his work ethic, not ability.

Again, I've only seen him playing safety, where do these "can't play corner" opinions come from, thin air?
================================================== ===================
Positives: Very instinctive and aware. A natural athlete with quick-twitch, explosive movements and an excellent burst to close on balls thrown in front of him. Has a good feel for the game and is solid and aggressive in man-to-man coverage. Is good in transition and has hip flip. Excellent reactions in zone defense and overall ball reactions. Takes good angles, and times and jumps better than numbers indicate. Is willing in support and tackles. Agility is a strength, as is smarts and ball-tracking. Has 38-inch vertical.

Negatives: Only an average worker in the weight room and on the practice field; nor is he a film junkie. Things come too easily and he doesn't go the extra mile. Not a face-up tackler. Will gamble for interceptions in key situations. Played primarily man coverage in college.

Summary: Reminds some of ex-Florida CB Lito Sheppard, a second-round pick of the Eagles in 2002. Wilson should be drafted in the first two rounds because of his talent, but he needs to become more of a worker.
