I don't blame him a bit either. After all, the same supposedly nonexistent leverage got Lance Briggs a million bucks and a promise not to franchise again. It's worth a try.

Great to have him back. I feel mighty good about a secondary lineup of Hobbs, Samuel, Gay, Harrison, Wilson, Sanders, Meriweather. Mighty, mighty good.

that's true up to a point, Joe, Once it was clear that he was coming back before the regular season started and he wasn't going to get what he wanted from the Pats, he had an obligation to back in time to make sure he'd be ready for the first game.

He has not missed 40-50 practices, he also missed all the meeting and film time. Not only that he also missed all the off season mini camps and OTAs. It is highly doubtful that he'll be ready and at top speed for at least 3-4 weeks.

HE may collect that $485,000 for the Jet game, but there is no way he will earn it, by being the elite CB we paid for.

Disagree on the first point. It was NEVER worth a try, IMO, b/c the Patriots are not the Bears. They're far more shrewd and tough in negotiations, a long history of being so. We also, just roster-wise, don't NEED Asante the way the Bears probably need Briggs.

As for it being great to have him back...despite my vitriol, I too am pleased to have Asante back in the fold. That's a really, REALLY good secondary. Hope they stay healthy this year.

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing Asante coming off the bench for the first few games - if that's a luxury we can afford. I'd love it if Gay and Hobbs can hold down the fort - not for spite so much (that would be an added benefit) but b/c it would speak well of their development, particularly Gay's.

It was worth a try because he had nothing to lose by signing a day later. His chance of success may not have been great, but there was zero risk, except our wrath as fans, and we forget things like that the first time he returns an INT for a TD, or earlier.

As far as him coming off the bench, I'd only do that if he looks rusty in his first few days of practice and I'd possibly only do that for the first game of the year. At the end of last year, I thought he and Ellis made a perfect tandem. I know Blue's been playing well, but it's only preseason and I would rather try and keep him as healthy as possible by only bringing him in to cover the slot and during nickel and dime packages.

He's only "obliged" to do what his contract and the CBA says he's obliged to do. Like you, I wish his sense of obligation extended to what we both seem to perceive as the greater good of the team, but it did not nor did it have to. He did what he perceived as being in his own best interests. He was entitled to do that, whatever any of us think.

Let's move on.
