Default Patriots preview from Deadspin

Some may not like it, but I think it's great (and eerily accurate in many ways). I nver knew he was the only NFL head coach that isn't in the union, nor identified in Madden because of that.

http://deadspin.com/sports/nfl-seaso...ots-293559.php

"There's a reason no one seemed all that concerned about Asante Samuel's hold out. There's a reason why Randy Moss threw away a two-year $20 million deal to make just $3 million for a single season. They understand that in the Patriots Republic, the individual player is not important, the system is.

"For every Ty Law New England loses, there's a Randall Gay waiting in the wings to step into the role. And the architect of this great leap forward is Bill Belichick, the Patriots' Chairman Mao, a man whose public statements invariably fall into one of the following three categories: Blatant propaganda, reverse psychology or out-and-out disinformation.

Belichick is a man whose separation from his wife was kept secret for a full year -- he coached an entire football season! -- until it became publicly known.

This is a man who is known as "N.E. Coach" in Madden because he refuses to join the NFL Head Coaches Association. (He's the only coach who will not join.)

This is a man who looks like he sleeps in (and chews on) the clothing he wears on game day.

This is a divorced guy with nothing to lose and nothing left,
man so completely consumed by football, he is somewhere out there right now in a very dark room, watching film.

Like an obsessive-compulsive in a Slinky factory, chronically restless, tinkering with his life's work, getting closer and closer to perfecting football's version of Socialism, an efficient, victorious machine that sublimates the individual for the greater good.

This idea of the greater good -- a very Socialist notion -- is what drives China as well. It's why businessman Zhang Shuhong killed himself after his toy company, Lee Der Industrial, was blamed for the recall of a million Mattel toys coated in lead paint.

The notion of honor and public shame -- not fines and suspensions -- keep people in line in the Patriots Republic. (Those of you with Tivo and high-def -- check out the Patriots assistants on the sidelines after a blown play. Zhang Shuhong didn't have anything on those dudes.)"

Thats pretty funny article! One thing that I never heard about was this:
This is a man who is known as "N.E. Coach" in Madden because he refuses to join the NFL Head Coaches Association.

I have noticed before that it does say NE Coach in Madden but I think it also says Baltimore Coach for Brian Billick so I am not sure if these guys got it exactly right, it will be interesting to see if NFL Head Coaches Association is even a real organisation...

Interesting spin, but I give little credibility to writers who can't even spell Belichick's name right.

Yoo-hoo, Mr. Deadspin Writer! "NFL Head Coaches Association"? Doesn't sound familiar -- there's a Coaches assn., but Head Coaches? Hmm, maybe I'll do a Google search. Hey, look at that, it's only referenced in one place...the Wikipedia entry on Bill Belichick:

Everyone does know that the folks at Deadspin create their own factoids to fit their tongue in cheek articles don't they? There's no "research" there that I'm aware of.

And for the record, no offense to Randy Moss but he didn't "give up" a $10 million a year contract. No way was Oakland going to keep him at that price tag. It was renegotiate with Oakland, be cut and try for as much as possible on the free market, or work a trade with a team like N.E. where he could parlay a low one year contract and an expected Super Bowl ring into a lucrative long-term contract...

That's a win win for everyone, and while Randy definately could have gotten more from another team (the Packers for example) he didn't "give up" $20 million to play here.

I know, I know, but there's still pride in humor writing. Make up something outrageous, fine. Make a true statement of fact, fine. Mess up a fact because you were too lazy to even bother checking the stuff you cribbed from Wikipedia by pasting it into Google, . Being right is better writing.
