Default Fair Extension Value for Randy Moss???

How much and how long would you extend his contract?

I don't know if he would take it ... 2 years $10 million with a $6 million guarantee.

Would anyone pay him more than that anyways at his age?

Somehow i don't think Belichick would give him more than $4 million a year at a time.

I think he has a few years left of value even in a diminished role.

I believe he still has value as a leader, in the meetings, and at practice to the team.

Wow. Are you serious?? 4 or 6 mil a year? For the player who's caught more TDs in the last 3 years than 2nd best Larry Fitzgerald by I believe 12 TDs?? Cmon, man. The man's gotta be worth atleast what his current contract is paying him, which is $9mil a year. 10mil for 2 is insulting. He's gonna probably end up hitting the open market and getting something similar to the deal he's currently playing for. Im sure he knows he's worth that. Im just not sure this team wants to pay it.

I dont think they mind paying him another 9 million a year I just dont think they want to tie him up for more than two more years. Maybe two years for $18 mill.

I think one of the biggest hangups about Moss's contract is the CBA. The Pats obviously want Brady here, and Brady wants to be here, and yet look at how long it's taking them to work out a deal. Moss is in the same boat. People talk about Moss and a diminished skillset, but I just don't see it. He was hurt last year and was still one of the most productive WR's in the league. I would gladly give him 10 mil for two, or 14 mil for three, or something like that. In a heartbeat. I don't think it will happen until a CBA gets settled, but that's just me. I think the Pats want Moss here, it's just the CBA that makes them hesitant with just about every upcoming free agent they have.

The problem is what kind of player is moss if he loses his speed? He is 33 (I believe) so that decline is coming soon. If he loses his speed he'll still be a very good possession type receiver, but that's not worth the kind of money he wants. I'd think about putting the franchise tag on him to keep him around another year, if not for Mankins. (Assuming Brady is extended.)

I hear you Russ but the Patriots are not going to pay him based on past production.

Sounds nice and all but he's probably past his peak production.

I think he can give more valuable key production in the next few years.

Less receptions and yards perhaps but still some major plays especially red zone.

The trick is how many of the next few years and how much is an excellent possession receiver worth to you? It's worth a certain amount, but probably not what Moss is asking for. Granted, I have no clue what Moss is going to ask for.

We could honestly say the same thing about Brady. We're about to pay him $18mil a year because he won 3 Superbowls over 5 years ago. And obviously we're hopeful he'll win another 1 or 2, but his best years are absolutely behind him. We're kidding ourselves thinking otherwise. But having said that, he's still probably worth the money. As is Moss. That level of salary I suggested wouldnt be to reward that 23TD season. I fully expect him to catch 15TDs for the next 3 years from this QB. IF we keep him.

Elite QBs don't degrade as fast as elite WRs, though.

How many wide receivers had a better season than Moss last year? Add to that, he was injured a lot. He's still one of the top 5 receivers in the game. He will be worth as much as he is now, just a shorter contract. I want him here for as long as he is productive and with his style and skill set, he will be productive for a while longer. I just hope mgmgt thinks the same and they can fit him into the cap.
