Yeah, I heard the NFL is about to declare bankruptcy because some guys who couldn't watch a game on network TV anyway are watching it on the internet.

I am not sure why you would make such an ignorant statement... Perhaps you think that if a business is doing well financially, they should just ignore it when large amounts of people try and steal their product...?

I honestly don't think you read my post, but responded anyway, so let me try again:

Suppose you are DirecTV. You've just paid millions and millions and millions of dollars for exclusivity. Now some guy is taking the thing you paid millions of dollars for and broadcasting it for free, which significantly devalues your product and cuts into your business. What are you going to do..? Shrug your shoulders and say "that's life!"...?

As a paying DirecTV customer, maybe I should send the NFL some e-mails and let them know about this illegal venture.... hmmmmmmmm.....

I'm not getting into an argument with you on this, basicly because I live in Las Vegas and I go to the casinos to watch the real games, preseason I don't have much interest, except it would be nice to see the Pats. But the reason for this post is this...

With that quote above, you just named yourself the playground tattletale. Even if you were being sarcastic, we all know the rules about about playground etiquette, "Never tattle". We all grew up with the same rules and we all understand how they work. And we all know the exceptions, so don't get all hyped up over hypothetical situations. So unless its a real crime or runs a real risk of serious injury, "NEVER TATTLE"

I'm not saying its right or wrong. What I am saying is that its no different than someone setting up a SLINGBOX in New England and sharing it with others.

Well, last time I checked, copyright infringement was a "real crime"... You must have some other definition of the words "real crime" that the rest of us don't know about... I suppose to you copyright infringement is just a "make-believe crime"..?

Neither am I. I'm just saying it's illegal.Well I am not entirely sure what the limitations of Slingbox are... Just out of curiousity, can multiple people on multiple computers view the same single Slingbox connection..?

I am not positive, but I don't see why they couldn't. But I don't have a slingbox personally.

Also, with a slingbox, people can watch games that are protected by the leagues black-out rules without paying for it ala DirecTV.

Your correct in that this is blatant copyright infringement, but Sopcast is peer to peer music and television broadcasting. So the people that decide to broadcast these are simpletons like you and me. Sopcast is nothing but an intermediary, they do not control what is being broadcast. It's alot like limewire for sharing music files etc. But ya Sopcast has been available for at least a couple years now -- I'd be shocked to find out cable companies and major broadcasting stations don't know about it.

I have one and I have it set up... I certainly may be wrong, but I don't think you can have multiple computers reading off one single box. You essentially have to "log in" and I think only one computer can be logged in at a time. Now, if my brother is in Florida and wants to see the NE-NYJ game and I let him log onto my Slingbox, that isn't exactly something the NFL would ever know about and crack down on. But if start a website where anyone in the country can log in and watch the game, they would shut me down in a heartbeat.

Well, I would say the same thing about Slingbox that I say about the streamednfl.blogspot website... re-broadcasting an NFL telecast over the internet is illegal. Period.

I can't believe how my one little statement "Well there's a Cease & Desist Order just waiting to happen..." started this whole controversy. And nothing anyone has said here changes the fact that when the NFL finds out about these types of websites, they do everything in their power to shut them down.

That's a great comparison and, to further the comparison, look what happened to the original P2P music sharing sites like Napster and Kazaa. They got sued and shut down by the music industry.
Well, usually what it takes is something like this to become common and widespread before action is taken... I doubt they could ever get all the sites that do such things, but I have no doubt they would go after the big ones when presented with such.
