Practice notes
Due to the rain that made its way through the Foxborough area, the Wednesday morning workout was closed to the public and moved inside the Dana-Farber Field House. … The workout took place in full pads. … None of the team’s starters or top of the depth chart players were in attendance for the practice, as those guys left the Field House and returned to Gillette Stadium prior to the media’s arrival in the indoor facility.
Those in attendance included most of the guys who will see the bulk of the action in Friday’s preseason opener -- including rookies, undrafted players and first-year Patriots. … Newest Patriot Donte Wesley, acquired in a trade with the Bears on Tuesday, took part in the workout. Wesley spent much of the day covering Bam Childress working both outside and in the slot. Wesley spoke with the media following the workout. “It’s great. I’m glad Chicago gave me an opportunity to come here to New England and play. My goal is just to come here and play hard. It’s a great team and I’ve always liked this team so I’m happy just to be here,” said the defensive back/special teamer. … With undrafted Quinton Smith left as the only running back practicing, the versatile Childress helped out by taking reps in the backfield during team work. … The Patriots will return to the field Wednesday night for another session at 5:30.
