I got about halfway through the is Caldwell done thread and I couldn't take any more.

So I figured I wanted just a straight answer to a simple question to help me make up my mind about Caldwell:

Half the team was supposedly sick with flu that day. 15-20% couldn't hang out there in the 2nd half. Does anybody know if Caldwell was sick that day too? Was he just trying to hold it together out there while holding his lunch down and lost concentration for a minute?????

Part b of question: If so; would that get any sympathy with the "lynch caldwell now crowd"?

While I am disgusted about him dropping the pass and also not just breaking straight down the field when he was uncovered and letting TB just lay one out there for him.......I prefer to reserve judgement and let the professionals tell me if he sux or not on 1 Jun cut downs or 53 man roster cut downs. BB will watch him in action; I don't have that luxury.

The guy caught above the league average # of passes last year and if it was Stallworth #1, Caldwell #2 and #3 Welker I would not be upset. So I give him benefit of doubt.

Yes he had the flu, he had a very bad case of it. It made his eyes run and get all teary. They had the "bug out' look.

While waiting for, what seemed hours, until Tom finally saw that he was wide open with no one on him, he suffered blurred vision. It seemed as if there were 3 balls coming at him and he tried to catch the one in the middle.

So,there you have it. This has been an under reported story and will continue to be. I don't know if that will change any hearts or minds about him.

Its a good probability that he was under the weather, and like the rest of the team suffering from the "unexpected high temperature" of napolians dome oven. But that aside I am opposed to lynchings on principle and especially when no crime has been committed. All receivers drop catches for goodness sake - I have seen critical or key drops by TO, Steve Smith, all of the Colts' receivers and even Jerry Rice. Cut the guy some slack. I am sure he was never intended as a #1, and believe he was brought in to replace David Givens (whose number he got). As a 2a or 2b he was asked to perform at a higher level and did for most of the season. Not a 1a but a serviceable 1b.
I would certainly like him back next season and at the level that he was originally brought on board at 2a or 2b. He was and will remain productive as a number 2. If you have to blame anyone blame Branch, as his desire for loot forced us to rely on a less than perfect number 1.

Furthermore Grahambo (in the last few years) and Watson (the last 2) have each had significant drops but there were few calls for their heads, perhaps because they were TEs rather than WRs. Even Branch and Givens in 2005 experienced the dropsies whereas in 2004 they were almost perfect. Drops happen folks, the key thing is not to make a habit of it.

Whether Caldwell had the flu or not he deserves the fans understanding, appreciation and support.

You got it right here from the horse's mouth. I was surfing yesterday and ran into Reche. He told me it was the worst case of the flu he's had in a long time; yet, he wasn't willing to succumb to any symptoms, so he strapped it on and played his best.

He's really looking forward to the competition at WR this season, and thinks the Pats are making the right moves. I lost him shortly after that comment, as a set came through with waves so big they made his eyes bug out. I caught one, and that was the last I saw of him. Good day at the beach!

Somehow he didnt **** his pants against the Chargers and at that point it was easily the biggest game of the season.
