Does anybody have a theory as to what BB would like to do OTHER than coach?

Become a fashion model, perhaps?

His father coached for the fun of it into the last year of his life, well into his 80s. What would BB do EXCEPT coach?

You're reading into this WAAAAY too much.

Pioli and Belichick decided the market and their cap situation was ripe this year for a free agent plunge. That's all.

BB has continuosly stated that he feels rewarded by sustained excellence. He'll stick around.

So to continue my thoughts...What comes next, in the year 2011 is that they all have retired, we have a great new coach and GM, and the coach of the year now has the Belichick trophy for the winner! 5 years later, Canton is gonna get very Patriotic!!!

If the pats win the SB this year and BB retires, why would the dynasty end? I'm sure the Pats would replace BB from within, maybe one of his apprentices?

The pats are relatively young at key positions and have locked down a number of key players for years to come. I think losing BB is a loss, but you don't see him complete a pass, or make a tackle, its the players. We have a good group of guys here and I believe they can be competitive even without BB.

Half the post season games we won during the SB runs were by smoke and mirrors from BB and our old coordinators schemes, so anyone who thinks loosing BB wouldnt end the dynasty should get their head examined

My Jest troll senses are tingling...

(1) You have proclaimed the end of the Pats' dynasty (in classic troll fashion)

(2) You have tried to pretend you are a Patriots fan (in classic troll fashion)

(3) You have ever so subtly proclaimed the genius of Eric Mangini (in classic troll fashion)

If so Ill toast the dynasty with any one of youz guyz (gotta put the jersey touch on this thread)
BB understands that situations like what we have in New England don't last forever.

Last year we were a single player away from a fourth superbowl. You either use opportunity or lose it. Last year we lost it

I think he's commited to using our long term salary cap surplus (because that's what we have) over the next five years, to bring home as many super bowl victories as possible.

He's smart enough to know that no one can predict that far into the future, so he might as well spend it now.

I think the Pats are spending to get better and that's a good thing. They are simply doing what they do every year, try to win the trophy. If BB and the Pats win the championship this year I don't think he will retire. I think he will want to coach out at least the decade and try to win as many trophies as possible to seal his legacy. If we can win 2 or 3 more championships by the end of 2010 I think the Pats will be regarded as one of the greatest dynasties of all time and that inevitably coach of the year award will be named the Belichick award (after he retires that is, who the heck wins their own award?).

Naturally, you're talking defense, since the Patriots led for 58 minutes and lost as a result of a 7 play 80 yard drive that took 77 seconds. I just wasn't clear which defensive player you were talking about.
