Those are some phenomenal speeds for the Safeties - Nelson had a bi of a speed question, his 4.53 will help keep him in the top 20.

Very good numbers, we could go Safety and CB in round 1 and walk away with some real good players. It is amazing how much faster players are from even 5 years ago, 4.35 from Landry is just sick.

CB - Houston, Hall, Reyes, Hughes, maybe McCauley sneaks back into round 1
S - Griffin, Merriweather, Nelson (his 40 time cost him 5-10 draft spots)

Good potential in rounds 2-3
Irons, Wilson, Bain, Wade, Wright, Sabby, Gattis, Brown, Bennett

No top 5 picks but a lot of depth, this can only help the Pats if the want to add some players to the backfield.

Alas, no return ability because he has hands of lead. Houston's been a bit controversial on the draft board -- spectacular athlete, impressive cover guy, weak in run support and ball skills. He could be an excellent NFL DB, but to me does not fit the Pats' profile for the position.

I don't think so. His speed and bulk are really his only two questions and while his 40 was a little slower than Griffin/Merrieweather, it was a little better than expected (for me anyway). I think he solidified his spot.

You are likely right, we tend to get caught up in a couple 1/100 of a second. I think he was expected to run under 4.5 because speed is such a big part of his game. It is hard to tell for sure but on the surface it seems like Landry is the clear #1, likely top 10 and then Nelson, Griffin and Merriweather are lumped together somewhere between 20 and 35. Dallas needs a free safety in a big way, I would be surpised if Nelson gets by them.

The Patriots shouls have a shot at Merriweather and Griffin at 24 and maybe even 28. Both seem like solid players, if Merriweather character concerns are resolved he is a very interesting prospect. Future FS and and the ability to contribute as a 3rd or 4th CB right out of the gate increase his value.

u dont need hands to be a returnman..Dante Hall isnt a solid catcher but his returns are great.

theres a different when a ball is coming at you at at least 50-60 mph straight at you compared to when a ball is high in the air coming down to you. you dont use your hands the same way and that comes from experience and knowledge. on returns you kind of craddle...on defense/offesne you reach out for the ball coming right at your face mask or chest

Sorry, let me clarify the intent of my post...the problem with Chris Houston is that he has perhaps the worst hands and ball skills of any of the highly ranked DBs in the draft. If you look at past Patriots draftees, ALL the DBs had great hands and ball skills. It's not about the return game at all.

i dont see Hobbs having great hands really..ball skills or w.e. he hasnt shown it

Samuel had bad hands..he dropped so many picks in past..now he worked on it. im confident Houston can work on it like Samuel did
