Default Graham may be on move

INDIANAPOLIS -- Barring an unexpected change, tight end Daniel Graham appears headed for free agency. There was no advancement in contract talks between Graham's representatives and the Patriots here at the NFL Combine.

The Patriots have 12 players scheduled to become unrestricted free agents Friday, and Graham tops the list.

A first-round draft choice (21st overall) in 2002, Graham should generate interest in a generally weak tight end market. At 6 feet 3 inches, 257 pounds, he may be the most complete tight end available, and he is considered a solid presence in the locker room. The Patriots named him a captain during the 2006 season.

Really like Graham and what he has done for this franchise, but he may be more valuable to another team than he is to the Patriots.. see a lot of teams with character issues who would want a TE of his abilities.. he has developed a good resume here.

I agree - coming out of Colorado, he was supposed to be the second coming of ben coates - a lot of different factors capped his contribution, considering he was the best TE of his class - including injury, general offense scheme requiring primary blocking TE and inconsistency. When he leaves, we salute him on a hard played contract - but realize we have a 4th year and a 2nd yr stud coming in behind him to pick up the slack.

I agee with your first conclusion, however I don't think anyone steps in with his ability to block, especially not Thomas. I think his possilbe departure will have a bigger impact than some people realize.

With his injury history, teams better do their homework on him, especially his shoulders.

Expect his hometown Broncos to make a serious push.

If Graham leaves...the Pats will have a major need for a blocking TE.
Neither Watson nor Thomas will fill this role.

I thought Thomas did a decent job blocking.

I hope it's to an NFC team. I really don't want to see him go to the Jets or Broncos and have to watch him blow up our linebackers once or twice a year.

Ashworth, Branch, Graham...............Patriots West.

There's only two conclusions for Patriots fans on rookies. They are either a bust or being fitted for their bust in Canton.

I really want to see him go to Seattle,if not here. Not to play a old record but it is clear had we not traded up he would of worn a Seahawks jersey. Almost seems fitting and I'm sure Alexander would appreciate the hell out of him too.
