How long would you say it takes a player to show what he has? I say 3 years? There needs to be improvement where they are dependable and you know what they can do for you and do they fit in.
Most only play 10 -12 years average and the stars don't seem to take 5/6 yrs to be stars.

IMO, all players are different. Many players throughout this leagues history have gone from mild contributers to instant superstars over a looong period of time. All players just hit their stride at totally different times, not to mention the impact a teams system has on a particular players strenghts. So, I dont think you can give it a exact time table like the ones you have listed. Thats my take on it atleast.

Depends on the individual of course. But I think if you don't see results after 3 years you've gotta be prepared to move on. Sometimes guys don't blossom till they hit their second team, and sometimes they never hit their projected "potential" at all.

As others have said, it depends on the player. But it also depends on the complexity of the play-book for the particular position.

BB has gone on record as saying that TEs take a minimum of 3 years to develop in the Pats system. Its why people were re-miss in calling Daniel Graham a bust after 2 years.

I believe that WRs should be up to speed by the beginning of their 2nd year and most certainly by the end of their 2nd year.

QBs can take 2-5 years to develop.

O-linemen can take 2-3 years as well, though many of the top ones are able to start right out of the gate.

The rub with the development time is that players (other than first

round draft choices) are able to go to another team after four years.

Tully Banta-Cain is finally showing a little something but is a UFA.

This is why I hope the Pats alter their fiscal policies a little and sign

a couple of impact players less than 30 years old. We need another

Mike Vrabel or Rosevelt Colvin type signing.
