For perspective, let's all remember that it took Joe Montana NINE years to get his four rings and three SB MVP's. During that time, the "49er Dynasty" missed the Playoffs entirely once (albeit in a strike year) and went one-and-out twice.
My feelings have been too raw all day to post much of anything about yesterday. AT 5PM all I can say is that, whether it was the flu or the Chargers game or the cross country flights or the heat in the Dome or the cumulative effect of a season spent adapting to the loss of key, long-term team members, the bottom line is that the Pats, to a man, looked gassed at the end of the game. They left nothing on the field. We should be proud to be associated with them as their fans.
We've got two first rounders in April, a young O Line, a team that came together under adversity throughout the season and, oh yes, the best QB and Coach in the NFL.
Like Montana and Walsh, we'll be baaack.

Perspective is what is needed. This team has been rebuilt even as it wins.
There were only 10 guys on the Team that were here in 2001, versus the 24 that the Steelers had in '79, their equivalent 4th SB year and six years after their first SB team.
I would say this team is closer to going 19-0 then not making a Super bowl in the next three seasons.
In fact I would say it was fair estimate to rank this team as perhaps the strongest of Belichick's Pats teams.
It is certainly the youngest and most talented. yes that right Y-O-U-N-G-E-S-T. There was barely enough talent to win with the depth at LB, but it was sufficient, if all the Safeties weren't down as well. We were playing without the number 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 safeties. Rodney, Geno, Hawk, Tebuckey and Scott represent an awful lot of talent to remove at only one position. In the second half after losing Hawkins, the starting safeties were Sanders and Rashad Baker (? Who dat?)
That's why we were playing with our 6th LB, Alexander trying to cover their third TE. He was also making a botch of the inside run game as they ran at him ove rand over for good yardge. There was no one else. Every SB team but two has never had more than 8 people on IR. The only exceptions are the Pats, and even they never had 15 guys on IR, only to lose another starter in this game.
With all the caterwauling about our ILBs, situation substitution n the obvious passing situations would have covered the problem, if the substitutes were available.
A lot of the criticism of Bruschi is that he has slowed down. It wouldn't matter if he had two hands; this year he doesn't. It wouldn't matter if there were substitutes available in obvious passing downs. There weren't.
They will add some depth at ILB from the draft, veteran FA and the hospital. Every other squad has plenty of talent and is young and getting better.

As a Jet fan I feel no sorry for the Pats, after all you are AFCE champs, had a 12 win season, made it to the divisonal playoff, have 30 mil cap space, 2 first round picks, BB, etc., etc. Your future is a s bright as your recent past.

Not much to whine about IMHO.
I can't believe that I am about to agree with a Jet fan.
I would also add, that everyone thinks the AFC North and the NFC East will present problems for us in 2007. That is last year's pre-season talk.
Sagarin's computer ratings (in USA Today) track team and division performance. The most accurate ratings occur after a season of play; they show that the AFC East, and the AFC South were the toughest divisions in football, in 2006.
The AFC North fell below the AFC West. The NFC East barely beat out the NFC North as the weakest. Think ! The AFC East and AFC South had three teams each competing for playoff berths. We play the AFC North and the NFC East. I see no reason to believe that those two divisions that we will play in 2007 will get stronger, instead, I think they get worse, perhaps much worse.
AFC EAST
The Dolphins are going down, way down. The Bills may be better, but I think that the Jets have shot their wad. They won' t have a ridiculously easy 4th place schedule and Pennington has taken them as far as he can.
AFC NORTH
In the AFC North, the Steelers will be breaking in a new Coach who is aficionado of the midget defense and not the 3-4. They need a reliable big back and their receiving corps is nothing great. Rothlisburger has yet to demonstrate that he is a 3000, never mind 4000 yard a season passer. He needs a great running game to succeed: and a good one is not enough based on this years records.
The Browns are advancing but at a glacial pace, but from terrible to merely mediocre.
McNair is another year older, and he looked it, as is the Ravens core. And it wasn't enough. Boller is a mistake.
Even the Bengals who should dominate, are having trouble with the tenth or is it the eleventh arrest of a hoodlum on their club.
Why should this division be better? I see little in the way of great improvement from anyone, save the Browns in the immediate future.
NFC EAST
In the NFC East, what ever happened to the Pro bowl nobody? The Cowboys won't win with Romo and without Parcells. And they have TO to wreck, er wreak his "magic" in year two.
The Redskins are on the way to the very bottom. No QB, no players, and no semblance of any depth, despite Gibbs coaching. Snyder has destroyed any prospects.
There are organization and coaching problems with Eli, Coughlin and the the Giants, plus Tiki is retiring. Why should they be better?
The Eagles look to be the best of the bunch but that is still a 1 team division. Even the Eagle have issues; McNabb can't stay healthy, and Westbrook is an awfully small back to take the pounding that the Eagles need, as there is no one else.
Overall
SD needs some major work like we do, but their problems are more acute as they will lose both starting ILBs who are older than our ILBs. Their secondary is filled with high and DUMB draft picks who don't play to their reps. They should still be in contention. Denver will still be breaking in QB but will profit from the 5 or 6 starts they gave him this season. Their famed Offensive line however is on it last legs and the Browncos have reverted to the form that made RAC throw them out. KC is headed for disaster. The Raiders will spend a year letting Quinn/Russell learn the hard way.
Will Jax ever figure it out? The Colts fade to a merely barely winning team as competition in their former powder puff division firms up. The Colts are on their way down; it was easy to see they had major, major problems this year, It will show even more next year.
The Bengals time is upon them; Will enough be out of prison to make a run?
Prediction; I said 12-4 this past year in the pre-season. I predict 14-2 to 16-0 depending on the offseason. And HFA throughout, and a Super bowl invitation.

Minor correction, between SBs, the 49ers went one and done three consecutive years losing badly every time.
Other than that I am in total agreement. NE will still be a force to be reckoned with for quite some time.
What many forget is that, in addition to the two 1st rounders, NE will likely have 3 4ths, 2 6ths and 2 7ths (compensatory picks). No 5th, though. So they are not done rebuilding. If NE maintains there track record of hitting triples and homeruns in the first round, 50% of 2nds, 30% of 3rd and 4th and 25% of the rest....
That means that next years draft will garnash 4 guys to help immediately and 2 for the next year. Add to that the improvement of this year's class and NE is set up very nicely. I have said it before and I'll say it again: If NE had not just had their run, many people would be picking them to be the *next* dynasty.
