Default keys to jets game

here are my initial thoughts
1.Play field position. Jets thrive on their punt and kickof returns to not drive a long distance so its important to play good field position with miller and co.
2.Effective 1st down defense. Jets seem to use a a lot of short passing and quick runs with washington to keep the down and distance minimum for pennington. He is very effective in that kinda game and it becomes very important for us to get them stopped on first downs.
3.Related to above, limit YAC. which means we need to tackle better than we have done this season, without trying those upper body hits like samuel does it sometimes.
4.Offensively, start fast and play from ahead. Jets are good if the games are close but iam not sure how good they are coming back from 10-14 pt deficits.Of course start fast applies against any opponent but especially against the jets.A close game is an advantage to jets although i think it will be like that .
5.Run the ball more. Jets seem to be susceptible against run and we should just run it more and more .No need to try those cute reverses until needed.I feel a simpler game plan will be effective against this team than trying too many things.
6.Handle the blitzes. Last time we saw those free runners right up the middle to hit brady. We need to stop those.
7.As usual, key factor - turnovers . Protect the ball(yes watson you too).
8.Never been to gillette but i hope its LOUD this sunday..

The only two keys for me are turnovers and 3rd down defense.

Turnovers are obvious, one of the way a lesser team can win any game. And Pennington just drives me nuts with those little 3rd and 7s for 8 yards. And he will get plenty of 3rd and longs. Solid 3rd down defense and The Jest has no chance.

I agree on the turnovers but I think the big key will be short down defense. We had so much trouble with them in the second game this season because they were picking up decent yardage on 1st down, which opened up their options for the two following downs and kept them out of predictable situations. I think getting 5-6 yards on first down is what their entire offense is based on.

Not a bad list at all. I might add the following:

1. Pressure the rookie o-linemen. Try to confuse them and get them out of position.

2. Maintain discipline on screens, shovel passes, etc. The Jets have done a great job getting big gains on those plays.

3. Related to the above: Get pressure with the front 3 allowing the lb's to stay at home and stop the screens, etc as well as drop into coverage and handle the short passing game to the wr's.

On the blitzs, hopefully Brady has a better awareness of Kerry Rhodes and his speed off the edge - getting his clock cleaned on back-to-back blitzs that looked the same on my TV screen is a little 'embarassking'...

I'd say against the Jets it comes down to two things: make plays on 3rd down and finish your tackles.

If you watch both Jets games from the regular season, their bread and butter was pulling off short pass plays on 3rd and 4-7 to go for 1st downs. Our CBs have had a particularly difficult time tackling Coles and Cotchery in those situations. A disciplined game from Samuel is absolutely essential here.

On offense we need to keep doing what we've done the past 3 weeks, utilize the short pass to beat the rush and set up 2nd and short. The run game shouldn't be forced, rather it should naturally develop as an after effect of a good short passing game.

The reason why the run game can 'look bad' is because safeties have been cheating up to the line on a regular basis.

Its possible that those deep throws to Reche might dissuade that ploy, but I think we need to throw deep successfully to open up the run game.

Brady hasn't been his usual robotic self in terms of accuracy this year but he looked very assured in the pocket last couple of games - I genuinely believe his form is peaking at the perfect time.

We should get too carried away by what we seen against the Titans in terms of rushing offense - they are a terrible run D unit - but we have to remain balanced against the Jets.

If we get up by 10 points this game is over.

he has but we have faced the jags and titans ..not really exotic blitz or defensive teams. jags only pressure with front 4 which wasnt too much for brady and the titans , not sure how much they blitzed but iam sure the jets scheme will be a lot more tougher...very key for our o line this week to fix the protections.

There has to be a downside to all this blitzing otherwise teams would do it all the time, right?

Im sure Brady has been one of the elite in combating this defensive technique because of his ability to think on his feet under intense pressure.

I would have thought screens of the WR/TE/RB variety might be the order of the day to punish an over aggresive D - if the brainstrust feel the need to gameplan a solution to this problem.

I think our O-Line can step it up.
