Right now, you see how the Bolts O is clicking like a Swiss watch and you look at the way the Pats O is in such disarray and you have to wonder.

The O has never been one made up of super-stars but they always found just the right combination of plays -- and executed them well -- so they could get it done. Right now, something is lacking, mentally and emotionally, as well as physically.
I think the demise of the Pats offense has been exaggerated. It took me awhile to understand what has been happening, but here is the schedule, broken down in 2 phases:

Phase I: Post-Deion withdrawal effect- This phase is now irrelevant.
1. 19-17 Buffalo
2. 24-17 NYJ
3. 7-17 Denver

Phase II: Passing Game emerges- the 2006 offense takes shape.
4. 38-13 Cinci: slapped Cinci silly
5. 20-10 Miami: Saban "turncoat" effect
6. 28-6 Buffalo: broke Buffalo's will
7. 31-7 Minn: destroyed Minn season
8. 20-27 Indy: defeated by 4 Brady INTs.
9. 14-17 NYJ: Man-Gina, with a bye week, unleashes his now indoctrinated D on Brady in the mud.
10. 35-0 GB: Historic victory at Lambeau
11. 17-13 Chi: moved the ball better than any team has against healthy Chi D
12. 28-21 Det
13. 0-21 Mia

Going by the "Turncoat" effect, whereby the BB disciples are using the Master's secret weapons against him...

vs all other teams in Phase II, except the Turncoats, the Patriots Offense averaged over 28 points per game. Against the Turncoats', the Pats averaged 11 ppg. Judging by this, if Maroney and Watson are healthy, when the Pats face non-divisional opponents in the Playoffs, the offense will move the ball and score over 20 points per game. The only team that may stop them is Baltimore, which has the athletes, similar to Miami, to apply pressure and cover the Wrs.

If Rodney and Wilfork are healthy for the playoffs, the Pats should be able to limit any opponent they play to the 20 point range. If so, they have, as I said earlier, a puncher's chance to make the SB.

Who knows what the next three weeks holds. I'm still hoping for the best. And if we finish strong, then the playoffs are anybody's game.

A high percentage of the Coaches are from the Parcells/Belichick tree, including Charlie Weis, so we better learn to deal with it.

There is a certain creativity to being an OC. Most of the game plan is put in during the week by BB, Tom and Skippy.

We need to figure out the game plan problems this year and if McDaniels doesn't have the feel for it, get a new OC next year.
Isn't it defeating the purpose to demote your OC when your just starting to get him game experience? I know it's easier to sit a young player for a series or two to let him get his head cleared, but that OC is a necessary evil on every offensive down and kinda busy in between. For a rookie/second year man (anyone's guess) he's doing okay.

Pony,

The Patriots offensive problems may be a combination of playing Teams coached by former BB assistants. Half of their losses this year have come in that fashion. I think you have hit a home run in your analysis.

Every one wants to criticize the Offense but as someone else pointed out there is no consensus as to what the problem is. That's a sure guide that no one has identified the real problem yet. McDaniels, OL, WRs, turnovers, lesser talent, yada, yada, yada have all been blamed.

Everyone seems to forget that McDaniels was the de facto OC as a rookie last season, and Brady led the League in passing while the team had no problem passing. They couldn't run however, with injured RBs and a patchwork OL. This year its the reverse. To say that Josh doesn't know how to coach a passing game is laughable.

No matter how much the chicken littles want to rampage about, blame everybody, shoot the innocent, and reward the guilty, there is more talent on Offense than any of the BB era. And that is true of the receiving corps as well. The solution that I suggest is something that no one wants to accept though. Just time to gain experience together, time for the young offensive skill players to mature together, plus a Training camp or maybe two. Even without adding a single offensive player, this offense will be a steam roller next year; it is on something I would be willing to base a substantial wager.

The AFCE opponents all face problems that will probably require them to take a step back before making a step forward. The Patriots have taken the steps and this year may be the low point of the next half decade for them. Miami needs to tear down and rebuild their Defense; The Jets need to break in a new QB; and Buffalo needs to prove that Lohsman is a consistant winning QB now that he is out of the diaper age as a QB and not just an occasional winner.

Don't we now have a habit of committing at least three turnovers every game??

Of course he CAN. He doesn't bring in coordinators, he promotes from within.

Just because he doesn't hire from without doesn't meant he can't.

#1 -- Now that it has been successful against Brady, look for every other defense in the league to use the same methods that Miami and the Jets have used. You know it's coming. Caveat emptor.

#2 -- I still like our chances, too, especially if all the key guys get healthy. That may be asking too much, however, not knowing the extent of their injuries. Let's pray they heal quickly and completely.
