Default PFT on Vandershank . . . huh?

'BOYS DUMP VANDERJERK, SIGN HAMBURGLAR

The Dallas Cowboys, in a somewhat surprising move, have cut veteran kicker Mike Vanderjagt, and have signed kicker Martin Gramatica to replace him, according to Ed Werder of ESPN and Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com.

*snip*

As to Vanderjagt, he'll first pass through waivers. If his contract is not claimed, he'll become a free agent.

Why do we have a feeling that he'll land in New England -- and that he'll get his ultimate shot at redemption in a playoff game against the Colts?
Why on Earth would New England sign Vandershank? Does anyone in the Pats' locker room respect him? Would he provide any real benefit beyond what Gostkowski gives them?

I am also confused about something else they said about Vandershank.

They said the Redskins might be shopping for a new kicker, but Vandershank has to make it through waivers before they can get him. I thought players only went through waivers if they had less than four accrued seasons. Vandershank is going into his ninth. Doesn't that mean he should automatically be a free agent after being cut?

From October 18 on, all players are subject to waivers:

I emailed Florio - here's the scoop:

Assuming he clears waivers, the Patriots would then sign Vanderjagt to a front office deal, where his specific duties would be to sit behind Bill Polian for any games in which the Patriots play the Colts, and kick his @ss any time Polian makes a remarks regarding the following:

1.) Wishing Patriots players break a leg or otherwise get injured;
2.) Threaten bodily harm to other team personnel, and/or;
3.) Complain about NFL rules that adversly impact the Colts, threatening to have them changed by the Competition Committee.

The concern of course is that with 8 years of wear and tear as an NFL kicker, will Vanderjagt be up to the job of keeping up with the high demands of numerous @sskickings of Polian as outlined above?

Maybe five weeks ago Vanderjagt would've received some consideration, but with the new, kicker-friendly field in place and Gost's growth there is no need to waste cap space on another kicker. Florio's rep is already, for the most part, in the gutter, but he doesn't help himself with BS antics like starting nonsense speculation.

Nah, attorney, just ask Bella*chick, rationality isn't a prerequisite.

Why would they bring that weirdo in here? First off he just got cut by Parcells and if all the "BB and Parcells talking" rumors are true he'll know everything about him. Also they showed a BB PC during the NFL Replay last night where he talked about ghost and he was very positive about him---bb won't usually throw that kind of stuff out if you are getting ready to replace him.

No way he comes here!
