When teams are tied in record, you look first at whether one team has beat the other. Like Denver having the tiebreaker over NE and Ravens.
If the teams haven't played each other, than you look at how many AFC games they have won in order to rank them. If that is the same, the tiebreaker then breaks down even further into points differentials. It goes on forever in theory, until one team is better than the other. Normally, the tiebreaker will be decided by wins in the AFC conference. I'm not aware of any cases where it has gone further than that in recent memory.
