Default Mankins compensation

Can we move on? Can we trade his rights? Do we have to shop around for someone willing to sign and trade?

If we move on, do we have to let him on the roster in week 10?

Are their circumstances whereby we get a later compensation pick?

Anything else related to how we wrap this thing up would be welcome.

Mankins controls his own destiny, if he wants to be traded he will need to sign his tender. Until then NE controls his rights, but is unable to trade them.

How 'bout that Ryan Wendell? Rich Orhnberger? Larsen is settling in nicely too ... and there's even that Connolly kid.

I think Connolly looks good and if you look at things objectively, we have about the same depth we usually have at those positions.

Sure we could use another starter to replace Neal in the future, but we've just taken a position with one all pro and turned into a position that's adequate.

As Mr. Kenny Rogers once said, got to know when to hold em, fold em etc. and somebody has called Cool hand Logan's hand. Do you like my mixed music/movie metaphor?

I wouldn't say Mankins exactly controls his own destiny since the option of playing for a top team with a top long term contract might not still be available, who knows?

How long can he hold out? If this drags on to the next "CBA" year, do we still hold his rights, or is he free and clear?

I guess if not being able to sign with any team but one and having called the owner of that one team a liar is controlling your destiny, he's in the catbird seat.

We already have a Metaphors, and we'd need Hochstein back to make that work anyway.

Connolly is doing well, BB called him competitive for a starting role last season so things could be worse. Hopefully Kaczur's back gets healthy and there truly is competition for LG. I'd welcome Logan back, but that ball is in his court and the kids NE has backing up the interior slots are actually playing well for this point in preseason. Color me comfortable with Scar's lads.

Today, he doesn't have to take any trade offers he doesn't like, that's a good bit of control in today's NFL. With no CBA next season, there's no rules or contract in place to allow NE to control Mankins' fate. He can sit this season out, or so it would seem; I'd say he's the one who calls the shots in his life.

If being able to sit and make relatively nothing is an attractive option.

I would consider being able to put 6-7 million back in your pocket if OLine play is adequate, to be a more attractive option.

In other words, I would say the Patriots have more attractive options and Mankins only "controls" his destiny to the extent an unemployed person does.

I'd prefer the salary myownself, which is neither here nor there. Logan, if he managed his rookie bonuses and salaries wisely, isn't hurting. He gets to make his own mind up as to when to sign a contract, that's control. NE has reportedly made a substantial offer, if Logan feels that offer was made in bad faith, it's his right to stand on principal and not play. I want him in a NE uniform, I wish him well wherever he goes and whatever he does (within reason of course) and hope this all gets settled so MY favorite team can continue to compete for post-season and Super Bowl appearances.
