Default Corey's return to Cincy

Anyone else think that Dillon is going to be fired up going against his Marv Lewis and the Bungals? I just hope he's okay to get on the field!

we've played them with corey before..it wasnt anything special..a 75-85 yard performance i believe but like a 3.9 ypc and i cant see too much improvement from that because we dont really have a lot of threats at WR but their run D hasnt proven anything..lets hope Smash n Flash show up with there bumpers(lineman )

Cory may be fired up to play the Bengals, but not as fired up as the crowd will be anytime the defense hits him. There's still bad blood between Cory and the fans. I think some of the team is ticked he bailed too. Should be a fun game to watch. Both sides should certainly be playing lights out football.

I think this is either going to be a great game, or a no contest, with the Bengals running away with it.

I forgot this is Corey's first regular season game in Cincinnati. For some reason I thought the 2004 game was in Paul Brown Stadium. But Corey was injured for that game too.

Mongoloido, is the Bengals defense built more for speed or for power? If they are a speed defense then I think we will need Dillon more.

He better. Unless he's done a total 180 from his days as a Bengal, Cory runs like poop unless he's got a chip on his shoulder.

It's a bit of both, actually. They tried to go the speed route for a couple years, but kept getting blown off the line. In the off season, they signed Sam Adams to clog things up in the middle, take a little heat off the other linemen, and actually allow the linebackers to fly around to the ball. The results so far have been a bit mixed. On vanilla run plays, our guys do pretty darn well. When a team strings it out and allows a runner to cut back, we're still missing some gaps and overpursuing.

Our guys are getting better, and really are closer to being a decent run defense, but it's going to take more time to iron out the wrinkles...

We also signed SS Dexter Jackson in the offseason for his great run support skills. Unfortunately, he's out another week or two with a bum ankle. Kevin Kaeviharn is a fine backup, but doesn't have the size to really come up and lock things down at all.

I think we'll struggle some this week against the run, but have a better showing than we did against the Steelers.

The other note I'd add about our defense is that it wants turnovers more than anything. We give up yardage gambling on getting the picks. We also give up yardage wrapping up runners and trying to strip the ball instead of really laying some wood. Runners can sometimes drag the defender a few extra yards because of this.

The theory really is to get the ball in Carson's hands as many times a game as you can.

Mongoloido, I have only seen one Bengals' game this year (Pittsburgh) and it looked like the Steelers could get pressure whenever they wanted with their front 3. Is this just because Pittsburgh, like NE, has a stud dline or is it a weakness in the Cincy offense?

When healthy, we're actually touted as having one of the best offensive lines in the NFL. Carson was only sacked 19 times last year. This year has been a bit different. Our left tackle has a bum ankle, and our longtime center has broken a bone in his leg. Against Pittsburgh, our left tackle played anyway, and our replacement center was getting his second NFL start ever. Dick LeBeau threw every exotic defense he could at us, and it worked.

We've got good guys, but Ghiaciuc, our young center, is going to make mistakes for a few more games. That's why your defense spooks me. Healthy, I'd say we kick butt, and rack up tons of points. However, you guys really know how to get nutty with the defense. Ghiaciuc has to direct everyone to their blocks... I'm worried he's going to make lots of mistakes again.

The last thing is that Carson isn't right. His leg is healthy enough to play quarterback, but he's slow as dirt this year. He keeps thinking he can run away from guys, and he just can't. I think they spent the whole rehab time making his knee strong. It will be another year before his leg has speed back.
