Default Glut Of Defensive Backs

There must be a fire sale on defensive backs this year. So far the

Patriots have signed (or allegedly signed) 15 of them. They began by

re-signing Ventrone and signing Spahn and shipping them to NFLE.

Next, they re-signed Gay, Hawkins, Poteat, and C. Scott. Jones, Mitchell,

and Warfield were signed from other teams. During the draft they chose

Andrews and then Brown, Hall, Herring, Jackson and Smith were allegedly

signed as UFDA's after the draft.

Why do we need a total of 22 defensive backs on our roster? The

only thing I can figure is most of the UFDA's will be at rookie camp

and then released.

Have you been watching the past two years and noticed how the Pats DB's drop like flies?

Some of it may be competition in camp and some may be to save wear and tear on the starters in camp.

Did you follow the Patriots last season?

Last year every one laughed at BB, saying he was signing all those DBs because he lost a couple in 2004 and didn't want it to happen again.

Do you remember the state of our defensive backfield last year?

The more guys, UDFAs included, who play in the systemthis summer, the more likely to find someone to sign in December if desperation strikes again.
