OK.. When Goodell first announced that the league was changing to this format, I felt, for sure, it was going to be a bust. That it was going to conflict with the play-offs in the NHL and NBA and that the ratings would be abysmal.
Well, I am here to eat my dish of crow. I was wrong and I can fully admit it. I would not have guess that the NFL Draft would score such high ratings against the NBA and NHL play-offs.. But it did.. It out drew both yesterday by a large margin and I am hearing that it did the same today.
So, Kudos to you Goodell. You did something right. Now, pass me my crow and the hot sauce..

I hate this crap, I hope its back on saturday next year.
You may hate it, but clearly a majority of the fans love it.. As seen by the huge ratings boost compared to last year. And against the play-offs of the NBA and NHL..
A ratings boost doesn't mean that fans love it. Standard correlation/causation fallacy.
Given that it's 3.21am as I write this, no-one will be surprised that I hate the change. I was up until 5am yesterday. I love the NFL and I love the draft, but I'm falling asleep as I type. Not exactly ideal.

But is this different from the norm?

I had my doubts but i think it is. So far its moved right along and is actually exciting to watch unlike those epic 4 or 5 hour marathons that were just the first rnd.
Personally I am not in love with the new format, but it was a ratings getter and I am sure WEEI and 98.5 are loving the format.
For me personally, I think there was far too much over analysis of the first round today. The media and fans went way overboard with the McCourty selection. I hated that the second round started a 6PM today (I'm sure anyone in a later time zone hated it more) since I was in my car at the start of the draft (thank god for Sirius NFL Radio).
I still rather have the first, second, and third round on Saturday so my friends and I can sack out on the couich with our draft guides, some cold beer, and pizza and making a day of it. I spent the last two nights alone infront off my computer and the TV in my home office. It just isn't the same.
An evening game starting at 8pm (I think) is 1am for me. Not ideal, but when it's a game like Patriots/Colts or Patriots/Saints it's not too difficult to stay awake
The draft isn't the same as a actual live game. I watch the entire draft out of principle but having tasted the manna that is a weekend daytime draft, the shift to East Coast primetime is a bit of a nightmare.

I think this draft was just more exciting in general and I don't know if it had anything to do with the format. The only way the format would have really altered the draft is if there was a trade in the first few picks of the second day and there wasn't. There were just a lot of trades in general and I think that had to do with the depth of the draft.
