SO FAR AFTER TWO WEEKS OF THE PRESEASON
The pariots have
A) no significant losses from the 2009 division-winning squad.
B) extended Wilfork and signed all of our own that we wanted to keep.
C) made three additions: Patten, Murrell and Crumpler
D) holes to replace: WATSON, the injured WELKER, GREEN, BURGESS, the to-be-outed THOMAS, and HANSON
=============================
LOOKING FOWARD
I expect
1) an additional free agent receiver in the next week or so (at WR or TE)
2) a DE or OLB before the draft (perhaps the resigning of Burgess)
3) to draft a DE and an OLB expecting 2010 contributions

Better expect the RB corps to change with AT LEAST one current roster player gone, its going to change in the backfield and a drafted rookie is going to be a part of it.

"A" and "D" are contradictory.

Very fair analysis.
I would only add that we really need an every down running back. We all know Laurence Maroney is not the answer and those of us who continue to defend him only to do so as not to lose face.
If you wish a poll on the significance of the loss of any of the others, we can do so. Hanson is a good example. Perhaps it is indeed significant that we have no punter, but the loss of Hanson is not a big deal.

When you 'lose' both starting tight ends, it's significant. When you've got no punter, it's significant. When your #1 WR target goes down, it's significant. I really don't need a poll to tell me that.

TEs have played an insignificant role in the passing game the last few seasons and we have now or soon will sign one of the better blocking TEs in the league. Also TE isn't a position where you have two starters.
If we have no punter week 1 than it is significant.
Welker is significant but he will be with the team next year so it isnt really a loss but it is significant we have someone to fill in for him and improve the overall depth when he returns.

Wouldn't be shocked if that DE/OLB is Jason Taylor if he wants to come here. I don't think he's capable of playing every down like he used to, but I think he'd be a good add if his snaps were kept in check.
Everyone has talked about chemistry and leadership being a problem, and he brings a whole lot of positives in both areas. He'd also help in the development of any DE/OLB that we take in the draft, and hey, maybe he can get Crable to stay on the field.
