The board was pretty evenly split on whether this weeks game would be low-scoring or high-scoring. In the low-scoring camp there were quite a few who were pretty close to the final score, but just one predicted it perfectly.
Sean Pa Patriot has been playing in this contest a long time, only one week missed since 2006. That's over 70 weeks... without a win... until now.
Congratulations to this week's Predict the Score winner, Sean Pa Patriot, with a perfect score!

There are two ways to look at the season standings right now.
One way is as a two-man race, a very close two-man race. pats1 trails borg by just 2 points, and is 20 points ahead of third place.
On the other hand, it looks like the contest has at least 3 weeks to go, and 30 points can can be made up with one or two good weeks. There's a pack lurking back there, 10th place is only 29 out.
So stay tuned as Pats and Patsfans make their playoff drive...
This week's average score was 14, your score if you missed your one allowed week and gained a * next to your name.

Thanks to Alamo for keeping this going. Great contest this year.
PFS74 has been slowly creeping up the board, a couple of slots a week. While the pundits on HSPN are saying the best he can hope for at 36 points behind in Week 16 is a top five finish, they are underestimating the competitive fires that burn within his Patriots heart, so great is his confidence that his team has six more games to play.

i think last year, i made up between 18 and 24 points on everyone in front of me on the last game of the season so this is wide open. at the end, if you are a risk taker, you need to start predicting some statistical anomalies since that is the only way to make up large point spreads with only a week or 2 left.
Also, thanks a lot for putting this contest on for another year. Do you think in the offseason you would be willing to consider rule changers to people that miss a week.? I feel like anyone who misses a week should be penalized the same as anyone else all season but awarding an average for that week specifically could actually be better than recording a guess of your own. On the contrary, if you miss a week and the score is in line with predictions, the avg could be 7 or something like that. Maybe you just take the 15 best scores and if you guess all 16 then that player gets to drop 1. If you miss, you obviously can't drop. Another choice would be to avg the entire season's weekly score and then plug that into every misser's score at the end of the last game....

If he's going to make any changes, I hope Alamo opens if for discussion. I kind of like the current system. If for no other reason than that it is simple.
Regarding your suggestions, I understand the second but would argue that it would wreck the horserace all season (which is one of the really fun features of the contest) because we wouldn't know until the last week what the average of averages was. Plus, it's just too darn complicated. Speaking of complicated, I don't even understand what your first suggestion is.
I also think being able to tactically skip a week where you feel there is excessive randomness at play isn't a bad feature of the game. You give up the chance for a big gain by nailing the answer despite the uncertainties but can settle for the average, which might be very high or moderate.

I will definitely post a discussion thread and/or poll, though I can't guarantee any changes will be made. Simplicity is good and any change has to be easily understandable.

Anything based on season averages would have to be recomputed weekly so the standings would adjust a little at a time. This might make things too complicated to understand though, people would ask "I was off by 20 points this week but my score changed by 22, why???" (due to the missed week score recalculation).
I kind of like the "worst score is dropped" but it would also have to be recomputed weekly. And I am afraid that one bad game by the Pats, New Orleans for example this season, will lead to half the board registering their worst score of the season and thus negate the benefits. Dropping one score only helps if you get a 30 when the entire board gets a 10, if everyone gets a 30 dropping it is a wasted effort.

Agreed, but its use is limited since if you can tell with any certainty which week skipping would benefit you, you could also probably do well enough that week to get a better than average score. The first 3 years I had a rule "no skipping allowed in the final week" but I dropped it, it seemed an unnecessary complication considering until you get to the SB you don't actually know which week will be the final week.
At season end I might try a couple of these ideas and recompute the standings as if they had been implemented, as a test.

the "confusing" suggestion was simply that your 15 scores count. If you put in a guess for all 16 games then you get to drop your lowest. If you miss a week, you don't get to drop your worst score.
I had no idea that people actually skipped a week on purpose because they think it is better to strategically take the average. I thought it was for people that were travelling and missed a week or just forgot or whatnot. Interesting.....
If I win again, I request that the results are posted before Alamo's 3 month winter vacation as there is no reason why the celebration should be held up.
Again, thanks Alamo for putting this on each year.
On another note, I'm very happy to see that, although I'm not near the head of the pack, I'm still remaining consistent with about 18 points per guesstimate.. sigh...
