Default Bring back Romeo

I am not a Dean Pees guy, his passive defense drives me nuts. Yeah, maybe they don't have a dominant pass rusher, but is that the fault of the players or the defense? If we look at AD and Burgess, are we seeing guys who can't perform or guys who aren't being put in a position to perform? My guess is that they can still bring it if necessary. AD looked pretty good coming around the edge last night and Burgess was the best defensive player on the field at Indy. Eventually you have to question if maybe the scheme is wrong.

Last night the team was not ready. New Orleans didn't do anything that they haven't been doing. They thrive on misdirection and play calling, but it was obvious by the second quarter that we were not ready for their offense. You can blame a missed coverage on the DB, but there were too many missed coverages last night for it to be the players fault. They opened the game with a 35 yard pass and they never stopped passing and finding open recievers. What the hell is Shawn Springs doing inactive? What do our ILBs do? They are both young and fast and invisable. Our DL applies no pressure up the middle, allowing QB's to step up in the pocket. This is nuts!

It is time to bring back a defensive coordinator with a little imagination. Remember when our defensive coordinator would put 11 on the line? Remember when pressure was important to the Patriots scheme? Remember when everything would be routed into the middle of the field where Rodney could unload on any reciever who had to come across the middle? I look at our defense and see passive, not agressive. I believe that it is the scheme that is to blame for our problems, not the players.

I'd like both Romeo and Weis back on some kind of lifetime contract, get some continuity which our staff hasn't had.

More importantly Weis because I don't trust O'brien at all. Sure he could turn it around like McD did and become a great OC but time is running out on Brady's career to waste time waiting to see.

As long as Daniel Graham, Corey Dillon, Ty Law, Teddy B, Willie Mac, Seymour, Rodney and Ted Johnson are in their primes and join them.

I would take Daniel Graham back in a second. Seymour was a very nice player, but he wouldn't have made a difference last night. Willie Mac in his prime, yeah, the last two years in Cleveland, no.

It doesn't change anything though, the talent on defense is at least OK, not close to as bad as they have played in the Indy and Saints games. That was scheme against scheme, and our scheming didn't get the job done. A defensive secondary can't play that bad without being coached to play that way. What they were taught was wrong! I have watched the Saints this year a lot, what they did last night was no different than what they have done all year. They use misdirection, rollouts and screens. What is worse is if Bush were active they would have split him out wide. Going into the game that scenario was the one I thought we couldn't stop. He does so much as a reciever that we would have had to play a corner on him the whole game, opening up the deep routs. Who knew that the deep routs would be open by defensive design.

Bush is their second leading receiver believe it or not. A commentator said that last night.

I'm not going to blame every one of the Pats shortcomings on Pees, but to insinuate that Pees is a better coordinator than Romeo Crennell is pretty insane. If the Pats had Romeo this whole season, would their record be any different? Maybe, maybe not. But as bad of a HC as Romeo was, he was/is a terrific defensive coordinator and could be an improvement for 20 teams in the NFL.

Not sure what Pees has ever done, in his collegiate or pro career to make you think that he is amongst the top 10-15 DC's in the league.

He's right. We don't need Romeo. We just need an AVERAGE defensive coordinator. Pees is infinitely worse than average. He literally does not adjust after his tactics cost NE the game week after week. He is learning disabled.
