Default Who to take at #21?

Well, thanks to BBs prescient tanking vs. Phins in wk 17, we are picking 21 vs 28. So who do we target?

I'd like a SS, Huff from Texas would be $$ if he is there. Of course, a young stud RB would be nice too. Doubt LenDale will last that far, but you never know (we said same about KJones & Steve Jackson).

Looking at 1st round history of BB, he's gone:

DL (01 Seymour)
TE (02 Graham)
DL (03 Warren)
DL/TE (04 Wilfork/Watson)
OL (05 Mankins)

Not that that helps much I guess.

Anyway, another guy I would love is Carpenter, the OSU LB. But BB tends not to draft LBs, and when he does its middle of the draft.

SS in round one? Doubt that....make that seriously doubt that...if Lendale is still there at 15 does Pioli swing a deal?

I think RB/stud LB in the first round...safeties and CBs from round three on down

Two areas where the athletes are worthwhile for BB on a 1st round pick,as I said on another thread, are WR and DE. The DE's are either taken for that or for conversion for LB. College LB's are too small for BB's system. Unless for conversion to safety.

Why are you so adamant vs. no S in r1? I dont have stats in front of me, but while S is certainly not a highly drafted position, and few go in R1, it seems to me that the ones that carry 1st round grades have a pretty low bust factor.

If BB thinks a S is worth drafting in r1, I think that is real good news for the Pats.

As to LenDale, yeah, I would be interested to see if BB would trade up if he is on the board at mid-teens. He just strikes me as a quintessential BB type back.

If he makes it to us, I'd like Santonio Holmes.

If not one of the DBs. Although we do have lots of guys in the DB once Gay, Harrison, Scott and Sanders are accounted for. I would also be intrigued by a good OL to round out the starting 5 with Light, Mankins, Koppen and Kaczur (unless we re-sign Neal).

No-one can say we wouldn't take a Safety, LB or whatever in the first round after taking an OG last year (fine, he was a Tackle in college, he's playing Guard).

Also, I know it was a different time but Belichick took Safety Eric Turner #2 overall in Cleveland - admittedly in a weak draft.

Can we put the BB doesn't like to draft certain positions to rest.
Everybody agreed we would never drafted an interior ol in the
1st round. Voila...Logan Mankins...Some will defend their position
by saying he can play T. He probably can. But, he was drafted to
fill the position left by Andruzzi. I think WR is clearly the most
desperate need if Givens leaves. We'll know by draft day if we
have Givens or not. If Givens is still here, I can see a player at
any nr. of positions; CB,S,OLB,RB. None of those positions would
surprise me in the least bit. We stuck with A.Smith after his
terrible 02 season and won it with him in 03. I think Dillon will get
another chance. A.Smith on his best day wasn't as good as Corey.
Just a hunch. I think his problems were due to injuries on OL and
Graham missing time. The only persons opinion on this who matters
is BB. If he passes on a rb because he believes Corey can still
play. I'm on board. If he picks a back early. I think you can read
into it that Corey is slipping. One thing I'm sure of. He's not going
to tell anyone before draft day.

BB has passed at chances to draft safeties high before...that's my point...they look for value with their first pick that's why I think they'll look for safety help down the draft order.

To be honest though, what do any of us know what Pioli/BB will do? They mystify EVERYBODY every year anyway...heh...we'll just have to wait for April Christmas and see what's in the wrapped presents

Default draft

LenDale White would be nice, but he may go really high.

I prefer to go LB or S, maybe even De / OLB. But, santonio Holmes, mentioned earlier, would be a nice addition.

He runs great routes, is a good blocker and is really fast. He is short, yes, but he and Deion could really terrorize opposing D's.

This team will definitely grab a running back to share time with Dillon, be it in FA or the draft. I like Tomase's mention of Chester Taylor from Balt.
