Default London

In the spirit of next week's game, I'm curious to know how many British fans we have on here and wonder what draws you all to American Football..

If I could I'd definitely go to go to London, and catch the game there.. it's a great city. Last time I was there, I survived being run over by a taxi for looking the wrong way and saw a store for walking shoes called "The Rambling store" and above all remembered to mind my gap every time I went on the tube. Only zinger was how expensive everything was.

Some things I remember that I'd like to share with some of you here of course, I stand to be corrected by our British friends if I'm not up to date on any of them.

bollocks = standard utility cuss word, good for anything
fag = iif anyone asks if you have a fag.. remember it's a cigarette
spot on = excellent/good/great
bloke = fellow
arseholed = very drunk
mickey mouse = wasting time
knackered = wore out
pitch = football field
gob****e = someone who talks all the time about something they don't know about

I remember a lot of people complaining about Wembley- so I hope they've got that pitch set for next Sunday.

Otherwise looking forward to the game!

I will be going to the game, live a decent way away from London but i've been to every game at Wembley and i definetly wasn't going to miss this one. The pitch will be fine as long as it doesn't rain too much.

I am the same. Don't live 'close' to London, but am traveling for the 3rd straight year

Also, 'bollocks' can also mean testicles

My younger brother will be going (he lives in the Netherlands) got tickets behind the endzone AND won some sort of tickets for the tailgate/preparty.
Curses .. he gets to see the pats live before me and I live in the states dammit.

Hope he has a good time though.

ive been dating an american for 3 years now and im now married so its safe to say it was her that got me into the game.
Once you know the rules its a great game to watch, very strategic and a nice break from our own sports. I dont think the NFL should get ahead of it self though, stick to the one game a year. An expansion team would be a massive flop.

I'll be there on Sunday. Haven't seen them since 2006, so really looking forward to it. I've not made it to any of the previous London games and am really curious to see what the atmosphere is like. Buccs and Pats are both well supported over here, so it should be good.

As for why I got into it? I don't remember ever NOT being into it. Grew up with it in the 80s in exactly the same way as I grew up with football (soccer), cricket, etc; would watch it with my dad and brother, talk about it with friends at school, play it in parks etc. It was always there.

Incidentally, I have two free tickets (block 552) if anyone is stuck without and fancies the trip. Could get them sent out tonight.

A fag in the uk can also mean the same as in the states.

Was laughing at the PFW in progress podcast from last week when somebody mentioned fud to them and they were trying to figure out what it means. Over here a fud is slang for, shall we say the female bits., i.e -You're a total fud mate. Made me laugh

Travelling down from Scotland, been a big fan of all NE sports since I spent summers there as a boy. Growing up Rangers fan though I didn't quite take to the Celtics at first tho!

Unlike last year, Wembley has recently been hosting world cup qualifiers for the England national team, including one last week. So, they are set up for sports. I'm sure the pitch will be fine.

Winston Churchill once described Great Britain and the United States as two nations seperated by a common language.

Just remember, for all you folkd headed over the pond, that some words have different meaning.

For example, being really p!ssed, means being realy drunk.

Also, a cookie here is a biscuit there, and a biscuit here is a bap.

So a cookie is a biscuit, and a bisuit is a bap. Remember that when you ask for biscuits & gravy... you'll likely get some stares.

Oh, and chips are crisps, and fries are chips... just a warning.

The beer is wonderful as are most everyone. Curry bars everywhere, and it's always good. Easy to get around on the underground, especially if you buy a pass for one or more days. I've never stayed in any hotels there, as I've always opted for a Bed&Breakfast package. The alleged "full English breakfast" you get with that deal is really more of a tourist thing, but there's enough food there to keep you going all day.

I really wish I was going, but it's just not in the cards this year.
