Default Tom Brady

I was actually posting this into another post of mine, but it deserves its own thread.

Everyone who is whining about (one of the) greatest quarterback(s) of all time, you have two options:

1. LAY THE ***** OFF TOM BRADY.

2. Become a star quarterback in your cute two-hand-touch pickup games. Then buy a handgun and shoot yourself in the knee. Wait a year. Then, LAY THE ***** OFF TOM BRADY.

The guy suffered an often career-ending injury. In the five games since then, he has amassed these statistics:

127 completions in 207 attempts.
1st in the NFL in completions.
61.4% of pass attempts are completed.
41.4 attempts per game.
1st in the NFL in attempts.

1,344 yards passing.
268.8 yards passing per game.
3rd in the NFL in total yards passing.

6 touchdowns.
2 interceptions.
0 interceptions in the past three games.
3rd fewest interceptions thrown in the NFL.

85.9 passer rating.

3 wins.
2 losses.

The passer rating is exactly the same as it was in 2003. For the historically challenged, New England won the Super Bowl in 2003. Brady was not a liability on that roster, despite his unglamorous numbers.

I'll leave it to you to compare to Brady's first five games of 2003 and Manning's first five games of 2008.

Actually, no, I'm posting Manning's stats (2008, games 1-5) here. I can't find the completion percentage or passer rating. But:

8 touchdowns.
5 interceptions.
3 wins.
2 losses.

Hot damn, look at all those interceptions. Peyton sucked, sucks, and always will suck.

Wait, no. That can't be right. Didn't he get some fancy award that year, like Most Valuable Player in the NFL or something? Meh. Who cares.

Hey I love tom brady, who is the best qb this franchise has ever seen.. However his coaching staff hurt him, his gm/ coach has hurt him, and he threw a few bad passes today, but he is still the man...

Great post. Too bad the "I need satisfaction NOW OR I'M GONNA BITE MY PILLOW" crowd will remain just a pick or two away in the next game from calling for Hoyer.

I don't care what the stats say - my eyes tell me Brady is an average NFL QB right now. I expect that to change (for the better) but RIGHT NOW he's not that good.

What concerns me and other fans is the throws that TB isnt making. No one was within 5 yards of Moss in the endzone and the Welker one he threw it like he was being rushed and no one was even close to him. Yes we all understand what Manning did last year, its just frustrating for fans to see because all they have in their minds is the 07 Brady. Lets give Brady till after the bye week and then if hes still making bad throws like this, then fans have a right to complain.

Statistics do not lie. Of course he isn't as good as he was in 04 or 07, but he deserves MUCH more credit than people on these boards are giving him.

Then they need to be checked for Alzheimer's. All I have in my mind is the 01–09 Brady, who tends to start slow, more often than not has good but not glamorous stats, and who kicks serious butt in the second half of the season.

I also have in my mind the fact that the Patriots' offense wasn't really a force of nature after week 10 or so of 2007. Once the rest of the league came to its senses, pass-pass-pass wasn't a piece-of-cake formula for success.

And, again, Brady isn't going to come out of such a huge injury and perform miracles in week 5.

Brady is having the same kind of year that he had during the super bowl winning years. Not very sexy, but got it done. This team, though, is good and is likely to get very good. 12-4 and winning the superbowl. Fire it up in December all the way into February 2010.

Sure they do. And they're easily misinterpreted. Do you think Brady is a better than average NFL QB RIGHT NOW ?

some people need to chill after a loss. I don't think anyone was worried after how he played against the ravens and the falcons. Besides, Denver has always given Brady trouble (1-6 career against them).
