Default Predicting opening day depth chart: defense

well, we know the roster now (after seymour's departure) at least for a day, so what do we open with? and who plays where? give me your ideas....

i believe we open with a 4-3....

(left and right are denoted from the perspective of the back of the defense)
RDE: Burgress
RDT: Wilfork
LDT: Brace
LDE: Warren

RLB:thomas
MLB: mayo
LLB: guyton

RCB: Bodden
LCB: Wilhite
FS: meriweather
SS: sanders

the db's are predictable....
i believe for the Dline and LB, that the run stopping strength for the dline is the left, and hence the weaker run stopping lb is on that side (guyton), ditto for the right side

pressure can come from any side, with either warren or burgress

on passing downs, it could be something similar, but the you add green and maybe wright to the dline (while still having burgress there, taking out wilfork, brace)

i hate losing seymour, but the value we got back was too good, hence we must move on.....and even w/o seymour, well have growing pains with this defense, but to me it looks REALLY, REALLY stronge, especially with 3-5 games playing togethere under their belts....

hopefully the offense is ready from week 1, LOL

I pretty much agree with this, though the right/left orientation may change. With Wilfork and Brace inside we will be very hard to run on. Burgess from DE and Adalius Thomas from OLB will bring the rush. If Burgess learns to play OLB he can stand up and drop back into a 3-4 front seamlessly; or Pierre Woods can substitute for him until then when moving to a 3-4.

I see the Seymour trade in part as a vote of confidence in Burgess and Brace. I think we will see a lot of them this season. Wright and Green are solid backups, but neither is a potential difference maker like these guys are.

I think depth charts are meant to show the depth as well, this is my guess.

Actually, it starts to looks pretty painful as far as depth once you actually have to write it down but it is younger and a little faster, that is what we wanted right?

RDE: Burgess, TBC
RDT: Wilfork, Pryor
LDT: Brace, Wright
LDE: Warren, Green

RLB:Thomas, Ninkovich
MLB: Mayo, Alexander
LLB: Guyton, Woods,

RCB: Bodden, Springs
LCB: Wilhite, Butler, Wheatley
FS: Meriweather, McGowan, Slater
SS: Sanders, Chung

Burgess does not play RDE. He plays on the strong side (left).

Green plays on the weakside(right), not the left.

Bills are really struggling against 3-4 and it will be a good time to go 4-3 .I think that a bad call..

ty warran your left end....the great left end in the 4-3 are smaller as they match against RT who tend be less atheletic than LT .They are big and stocky.warran will play right into most RT strength. What you need is put a woods here.

Burgess had a good season 2 yrs ago and is considered too small to play DE as he get worn down and injured .So lets put him on a the LT and watch him blow up by week as in Oakland 4-3.So put AD here

AD goes for a breather and Ninkovich comes into to cover TE and slot receiver.Comeon this kid is a DE and you want to cover TE and Slot receivers like wes?.

We have too many issues to run 4-3
not even DE and too many tackles..

I prefer this . i will use woods as ILB in some snaps and in nickle chung is my TE covering specialist

Tywarren/brace vince/wright green/pyor
Ad/burgess , Mayo/Alexender ,Guyton/chung/Woods ,woods/banta/Ninkovich
CB - Same
Safety - Same

What's so painful about that? Consider our opening 2008 depth chart:

LDE: Seymour, Green
NT: Wilfork, Wright
RDE: Warren, Smith
OLB: Vrabel, Woods (no significant experience at 3-4 OLB)

ILB: Mayo (rookie), Guyton (then unproven UDFA)
ILB: Bruschi (slowing), Alexander (JAG), Izzo (STer)
OLB: Thomas, Crable (rookie, went to IR -> Vince Redd)

S: Meriweather, L. Sanders (JAG), Slater (rookie)
S: Harrison (slow, injury prone), J. Sanders
LCB: Hobbs, Wheatley (Rookie)
RCB: O'Neal, Wilhite (Rookie)

We look a lot[ better this year, even without Big Sey.
