Default 2005 UDFA flashback

FWIW, while posting on another forum, I ran across a USA Today article that contained this interesting tidbit:

Quote:
Also Friday, the Patriots announced the signing of 10 players who weren't drafted.

They are, running backs DeCori Birmingham of Arkansas, Matt Phillips of Edinboro and Kyle Eckel of Navy; long-snapper Travis Conway from Virginia Tech; kicker Robbie Gould of Penn State; offensive linemen Ryan Krug of Connecticut and Mike Lorenz of Wisconsin; linebacker Andre Torrey of Arizona, safety Raymond Ventrone of Villanova and defensive lineman Mike Wright of Cincinnati.
Rather impressive that half of those guys were still on NFL rosters last year.

Hi Rico, and welcome to the board!

(We had a pretty good kicker at the time, I think -- sorry, can't seem to remember his name.)

I can't remember his name either, since he ran to the enemy

Is that right? For some reason I keep thinking of the name 'Fredo'.

Imagine if the Pats had kept Gould and let Vinatieri go at that point...

In what sense? How psychotic the reaction would be here, or the difference on the field?

Yep. Gould just got here a year early.

May nothing worse ever happen to us personnelwise than missing out on Gould and getting Adam + Gost.

Keeping Gould instead of Adam would have changed a lot of things since then.. Granted, the Pats wouldn't have Gost, but they'd have Gould and he's a damn good kicker.. and He was experienced at kicking outdoors as well.. It probably would change what this team looks like now.. at least from a draft pick standpoint.
