Default Even more interesting tidbit

Taken from ESPN 2009 Fantasy Football Magazine:

Writer KC Joyner on Shawn Springs:

"His 4.8 YPA last season was far from an anomaly. In fact, over the past five years, Springs highest YPA was 6.2. He may be the best veteran CB Bill Belichick has ever signed."

Although that last line isn't saying much, I think Springs will be a huge asset this season.

It conveniently ignores the fact that he gets injured if the wind blows too hard, though.

Then he'll fit right in with our injury prone crew.

His career stats don't agree with that. Yes, 2 of the last 3 seasons he's only played 9 games but in his lengthy career only one other game has he played less than 13 (not counting his rookie season when missed games may not have been injury related) and he has played 15 or 16 games in 7 of his 11 non rookie seasons. Maybe the 2 out of last 3 are because he's breaking down - or maybe it's bad luck - but he's averaged 13 games a season over his career including his rookie year.

Outside of Springs rookie year, he's played in 4 full seasons and 3 of 15 games. He's had 3 seasons where he's been injured and missed significant time. 2 of those 3 coming in the last 3 years.

I think that Springs will do well with the Pats and that, with the youngsters we have, will be able to get into all the games..

Yep. I cannot think of another NFL team ever with the depth we have as so many positions.

There have been teams with more depth than we have at WR (early 2000 COlts) but these teams did not have the depth at RB, TE, or DB/DL that we have.

Overall, the depth on this team is absolutely astounding. The cap effectively prevents having top flight players at every position, but the Pats not only have top players at every position, they have good backups also.

Incredible, when you think about it.

Thats what we always do, and I think the last nine years weve put a pretty competitive team out there on the field every year. I think thats how you do it you get good football players. Sometimes they are not always at the No. 1 position, but I dont think you pass up good football players to get the guys who arent as good just because theyre at a position that somebody feels you need.
