Default Question for the Haters to answer why did BB bring back TBC

The way people talk about Tully its like BB was crazy for bringing him back.

so to everyone who was arguing about the OLB position please explain why Tully was brought back.

He's cheap, he knows the system, he needs a job and he has some pass rush ability.

I don't hate him, I'm just disappointed we spend years grooming one or two low round or UDFA's that don't amount to much.

If we're not going to invest money or picks, let's flood the camp with cheap linebackers and let them beat each other out for competition.

At first I though TBC was being brought back to bolster a very weak special teams situation. He excelled on special teams from the time he got here. Then when I thought about it, I remembered that in his contract year, he got a lot of playing time and had 7 or 8 sacks without playing full time. So then I saw him as a potential situational pass rusher.

I wasn't bummed when we didn't match SFs offer because though he was a decent pass rusher, IIRC, he wasn't great at the point of attack. Well right now, we know that Woods is capable at the point of attack, and everyone has questions about his ability to pass rush. So at worst between these 2 guys we can get what we need from one OLB position.

BOTTOM LINE: I'm still confident that we will get what we need from the OLB position from Woods and Crable. TBC is a great special teamer who is excellent back up and might even work his way into the OLB rotation if Crable doesn't get back soon.

Youkr disappointment is due to unrealistic expectations. You groom all your late round picks hoping they will develope, and if one in ten does, you've won. You've gotten a player for nothing.

It is incredible to me how we can have the best team in the decade, and still have so much negativity around it.

Droop-heads like the stone guy say they are just being realistic. Well, being realistic is saying that the Patriots system has worked better than anyone else's, and it worked partially because of the flyers the team takes, and partially because of their policy of cutting a year too early rather than a year too late.

Rather than being grateful for this gift of a team we have been given, we carp because a draf pick or two didn't work out, and whine about UDFAs who don't make the team.

It never ceases to boggle my mind.

That’s what we always do, and I think the last nine years we’ve put a pretty competitive team out there on the field every year. I think that’s how you do it – you get good football players. Sometimes they are not always at the No. 1 position, but I don’t think you pass up good football players to get the guys who aren’t as good just because they’re at a position that somebody feels you need.”

You know what? some players get cut because they don't act like they need a job. don't know if that was the case with Redd, but it's a fact.

TBC was a good special teams player who was handed a starting job due to injury by default, because we hadn't been grooming anyone else [STer Alexander]. When he failed against Diego and lucked into a contract from San Francisco after we made no effort to sign him, he was waived there.

In the real world, sometimes you get dropped twice, wake up and realize you need a job and it motivates you.

Hope so. It's happened before.

Quite the contrary. By your own odds we need to bring in a lot more UDFAs and low picks if we're expecting to find one decent back up, or starter.

1/10 might be a little harsh, but counting on 2 or 3 undrafted players (7th is almost the same) over a period of years is really expecting to hit the lottery.

Your answer is as good as mine. I think TBC will be a fine backup, but nothing more. There are times when he can get after the QB, but he relies too much on his speed. With that said, BB will get the most out of TBC in pass rushing situations.

So we only discuss what already works. Gotcha. That Brady guy looks pretty good and I think the Moss trade is working out.

It's great that he was available, considering the situation. Just doesn't make me want to go woo woo, though.

Do we have a couple possible starters at OLB, plus Crable?...or do we have a couple career special teamers? Getting kind of close to the season for those kind of questions IMO.

Don't get me wrong, the signing of TBC didn't get me excited. But who else could they have had?
