What are the chances that the Pats will trade for the third pick overall? Here's an idea I've been mulling over...Seymour and the Pats first rounder for the third pick of the draft. Trading Seymour would likely save enough cap $ so that the Pats could afford to pay the third pick of the draft. Jarvis could get an extended contract, and perhaps JT could still be brought in to share duties with Jarvis at DE (as well as play a little OLB.) Patriots would have to draft a DE with their top pick in the second round. I assume Aaron Curry will be taken with the third pick.
I really believe that if this does not go down, Seymour is gone in 2010 anyway. I think the Pats will focus on keeping Wilfork and Mankins instead. Might as well get what we can for Seymour while we can. And that third pick will be a stud. (Aaron Curry?)
Before you guys jump on me, think about this for a bit. It actually makes sense.

Re: Chances NE will end up with KC's third pick of the draft.
I think the chance is 0. NE doesn't want the 3rd pick with all it's cost. Curry is a great player, but he's probably an SILB in NE's scheme and paying that kind of money for any SILB is crazy.
There's a better chance that KC trades Cassel to Denver for #18 and takes Barwin at #18.

I could see curry outside.............yeah, there's next to zero chance, but from a cost perspective, seymour is going to cost mucho $$$$ next year anyway
and I'm a big seymour fan, but if this helps set up the pats for longer.......
and no.....there is not a better chance that kc trades cassel.........but I would not be suprised to see the broncos making a deal with the browns for quinn
Re: Chances NE will end up with KC's third pick of the draft.
One of the major differences between the Pats and many of the other teams in the NFL is how the Pats manage their money. The Patriots are very good at it while the majority of the of the other NFL teams are not. The Patriots have no interest in the 3rd pick in the draft because of the money that they would have to fork over to sign the kid. Top 3 dollar contracts are a big reason why the teams that are consistently drafting so high rarely improve. Until the NFL deal with this out of whack salary structure for high draft picks, the Pats will have no more interest in #3 overall than I have in the fat girl who lives next door.

Mayo, you like intrigue. I can't see them reaching for the#3 pick but.....What say to this one? LJ is going to be cut after the grievance. The Chiefs need a RB. It won't be for the number three poick, but K.C.'s number three for Maroney? CAP is a concern in this case but not a big one. So we do get another pick from K.C but niot 3.

Trading an All Pro for an unproven, unknown rookie to possibly be nearly as good as Richard Seymour and paying all that cashola makes zero sense to me.
If the Patriots want to keep Wilfork/Mankins and Richard Seymour and the players and payers are reasonable, they will find a way ang get it done. The only players we have lost are those that really did not want to stay around here anymore and be somewhat "reasonable" in salary requirements, like Deion Branch and Assante.

So, just to make sure I have this right.... You think giving up the team's best defensive player PLUS its first round pick in order to get into position to draft #3 in a draft that's considered extremely weak at the top outside of left tackle is a move that makes sense?
What player available in this draft could possibly be special enough to warrant such a move?

Great, so the Pats trade away a RB, and take a cap hit to do it, for #67? I'll pass, TYVM.
