Default My plan or what it's worth

1. Resign Wilfork
2. Draft best 3-4 hybrid DE at 23. I would give a name here but there are several I would be happy with us taking.
3. With one of the picks in the 2nd round, take Jarron Gilbert to replace Seymour next yr. Not just because of his jumping out of the pool Youtube video either. He's 6'5" 290 with room to add weight. I'm no going to lie, all I have seeen are his highlights, and heard of his strong showing at the Senior Bowl. His strength and explosion make him an ideal 3-4 end. This also frees up a lot of cap room for next season, assuming there is a cap.
4. Take best available WR (Hicks would be nice) and another 3-4 OLB (best available) with other 2 picks in 2nd.
5. Jasper Brinkley in 3rd. I think he is going to be a 3-4 MLB in the mold of Ted Johnson with more speed. Not somebody you want in coverage a great deal, but a tremendous run stuffer. Great compliment to Mayo. Was a stud in 07 but injured his knee and had a subpar year in 08. I think with a full yr off of his injury, he could be steal in the 3rd.
6. Aside from these picks, depth at OL and resigning Mankins should also be high priorities.

What do you think?

No arguments here

But regarding the Big Sey situation, I agree we need another beastly DE, just in case we can't keep him. In all probability, it looks like he'll leave. But depending on what happens w/ the cap, we could maybe franchise him--assuming we sign Wilfork. It's hard to tell what BB thinks of him, as he did break the bank for him once already. I am a little uneasy as to whether or not he can be 'replaced.'
I think he handles his responsibilities well, and it's been well documented that our strong side of the line is the right side. It could be argued that BB values him more than some of us, and has some sort of plan as to what to do with him.
I'm still holding out hope. But I do agree that we draft on the line, in any case, it'll be tough if not impossible, to keep all 3 (Big Sey,Vince,Jarvis)

OT is a much higher priority. I'd rather take an OT than a WR.

I don't think ILB is a huge priority with Guyton and Mayo; are you looking at a 3-4 hybrid to play OLB? I think the days of run-stuffing TJ type ILBs are pretty much over.

I'd like to see OLB/OT/S(unless Lew Sanders is resigned)/ILB

Based on the fact that DLs are the most difficult atheletes to find late and the draft is deep at LBs, I would not be surprised if we see a DT taken with the first pick. Then again, how can we be surprised?

I think that the Patriots have already talked to Wilfork's people, and they aren't close enough to get a deal done yet.

I think that the Patriots haven't said anything about using the franchise tag, but both sides know that the Patriots can keep him for $6M and no additional guaranteed money in 2010.

I think that the Patriots want to use this as leverage in the negotiations, and Wilfork's agent refuses give them a franchise tag discount.

I think it is going to be very difficult to get this deal done before the end of the 2009 season.

I think this post contains five things I think I think.

The fact that Seymour and Vince are due for new contracts at the same time makes it hard to think we can sign them both. I don' think either of them are going to settle for a home town discount. I have a hard time trying to judge Seymour's current value. Prior to last year I had been on the trade Seymour bandwagon, but based on his resurgence last year, it seems to me that his previous lack of production was largely due to injury. That being said, even when at a 100%, I don't know if he is worth more than Ty Warren, but he'll certainly want a bigger contract than Ty's.
